2010+ TRD Supercharger

When talking with the TRD guy, did he mention anything about the amount of boost in the system?

There is a post in the FJ Forums that is quoting 8 PSI to get that 60 crank HP gain. Is that actually he case?

G

He did mention it at one point, Gadget. But, unfortunately I don't recall what the number was. Maybe joneseyyy remembers?

I am so glad to hear the news about the super charger, my wife and I both went to buy a 2013 Trail and both walked away not impresses with the motor and kept our old Land Cruiser, this changes everything, we are also so happy for the interior redesign as well, we will be selling the Land Cruiser and getting a white trail with black leather, now the waiting game begins

Trail comes with leather?

Would you mind feeding us some details about URD's SC? If Toyota decided to provide you the connectors when would it be available? What kind of gains does it provide? Possible pricing? Warranty? ANYTHING!?!?!:thanks:

Agree .....

Also curious why you're only held up by a connector, and TRD appears held up by CAFE standards.

Have you solved them, don't have to meet them, what?

Merely speculation but presumably TRD is meeting emissions requirements so that its product can be 50-state emissions legal, which is why a CA resident such as myself goes TRD. Mr. Gadget I'm sure isn't making superchargers with CARB exemptions, therefore his stuff wouldn't be street legal out here.

Gadget isn't Toyota...he has no "Corporate Average Fuel Economy" standards to meet...there is no government regulation that says an aftermarket parts manufacturer needs to keep MPGs in check

Gadget, what ECU connector is required? Is it something that the buyer (me) can get from a dealer and provide to URD? This way Toyota doesn't know it is for URD's supercharger. How did you get the one on your functioning S/C? Is the connector only available from the TRD S/C guys themselves or something? How many connectors are needed per S/C? One? Lots?

Heck, if it is only one per S/C, then it's not like URD needs thousands of these things. If the S/C is ready, a couple dozen would be a great start to get these things out to customers.

I imagine URD is anxious to recoup some of the R&D costs for the 5th gen S/C.

True,
And to add to that any company that wants to be taken seriously has to be 50 state legal. Living in California I can tell you R&Ring a supercharger and ecu mod every 2 years will get old. Any backyard person or shop can make power by ripping smog stuff off and adding this or that, the trick and the money come when it's done legal. it's not the old days of just slipping some cash to a guy.we have not even got into the whole void you warranty issue.

What about getting a list together of truly committed buyers and time frames? I'd go for either option (TRD or URD). To kick things off:

WarnerD9, $ less than 6-7k, timeframe - yesterday.., ready to buy..

TRD supercharger?

Hello,

I saw the supercharger thread (read all 19 pages) and I was wondering if the TRD supercharger is available yet? If so, where? I called Toyota and they said "there are no plans for a TRD superchager for that vehicle".

This is, oddly, a deal breaker for me. Read on if you want to know why, otherwise, from here on is just how my search is going. I want 3rd row, reliable and not flashy. I narrowed my search down to either a diesel or a V8. I like torque. I want to be able to pass people in the mountains if I feel like it.

I'm down to:
Tier 1
Toyota 4runner LE w/TRD supercharger
Land Cruiser (bordering on flashy, if people know what they cost)

Tier 2 (I feel like I may walk out of the supermarket and never find my car, there are that many of the following in my area)
Acura MDX
Highlander
Honda Pilot
X5 diesel (too flashy)
GL350 Bluetec (too flashy)

GX460 is out, I just don't like barn doors. I don't really like the Infiniti JX, I don't like CVT and the big Inifniti, well I just find it to be a bit too "Salomon pants and a sweater tied around my neck" for me. American cars, aren't my thing.

Anyway, any updates on the supercharger?

Thanks!
Todd

I moved your new thread here. When you see a thread that covers what you want to discuss, please post in that thread, rather than creating a new one. thanks.

If accelerating up a mountain to pass someone is your concern, power should be your priority. If you want to be able to pull a hill at the same speed you are going without downshifting, low end torque is what you want.

Why not a Sequoia or Tahoe type vehicle? You really need to go pretty big for a good 3rd row. The 4Runner 3rd row is ok, but not without compromises (children only, poor ingress/egress, little cargo space with the seats up, higher load floor than non 3rd row model.

The third row will just be for my kids friends, I only want it for short around town stuff, nothing more. Sequoia and Tahoe are bigger than what I'd like.

Supercharger I figured would help in both torque and hp?

It would. If they ever release it.
