Just because they are no longer producing the FJ doesn't mean that there aren't FJs on the road who would be interested in buying a supercharger. You guys need to spend some time at a Toyota event like the FJ Summit and learn a couple things about supply and demand. Between the FJs and the 5th Gen 4R owners there is plenty of market for a supercharger.
There is definitely demand out there. With all of the people that say this is underpowered (and I wouldn't mind another 40-50hp at the wheels).... Not to mention that demand might even increase over time as more of these vehicles rack up more miles and come out of the Toyota warranty. Some people can't justify throwing an aftermarket SC onto a brand new engine, but once it's got 50,000 or 100,000 miles on it.... and 2nd and 3rd owners take possession.... definitely might increase a bit.
All that being said, nobody knows what Toyota thinks is the current, short term and long term demands compared to R&D costs to recover. If Toyota is serious about becoming a "fun" manufacturer, then maybe they require less of a hard $ amount to expect as long as they get a little $ plus an image boost of sorts.
I'm in that camp. I would love a little more power, but I probably wouldn't buy a SC today. Once this thing gets to be 3-5 years, why not (depending on the actual results, reliability, price, etc)?

It's not a matter of investment of the dollars for R&D and recuperating that investment; that money has been spent (and is being spent), so it's a sunk cost. Talking to the engineering team involved, Toyota is concerned about emissions and fuel economy exclusively when launching products like this. There isn't any way in hell TRD and Toyota would have spent money on developing a supercharger for the motor if they didn't believe the market was there. The market decision was made years ago, you can be sure of that. This is an engineering issue, not a market issue.

I thought I read the pertinent stuff... basically it just keeps getting delayed? Someone always seems to chime in with something when it gets bumped. Ya never know, I guess.

My guess is the next batch of news will be at the FJ Summit again next year and they'll tell us that Toyota is delaying the release because of emissions in California!

You have to wonder exactly is going on at TRD... The leader of the show team, Frank, has stepped down (however he still contracts with TRD for shows) and the supercharger is on a 5th gen running and driving as we speak.
I think one of the big problems is TRD is trying to figure out how make the supercharger use only exhaust gas and when burned it has to produce $2 bills and drinking water.

I've put a turbo on a hyundai accent.

Except for the fact we saw both Gadgets and TRDs in use and in person at FJ Summit, Colorado in July.
All gadget was waiting on was an ECM plug if I remember correctly, and all TRD was waiting on was for California to freeze over.

Well, with the weather like it has been out here in SOCAL lately. Its unlikely to freeze over anytime soon. :surfer: Besides a supercharger is overrated anyway :biggrin2:
You won't hear any argument from me about it being overrated. I still want one, but I agree.
Not sure California will ever freeze again thanks to Japan, are you going to install a Geiger-counter in you runner now?
