Looks like the 4.0 SC is on its way.

Has anyone asked about what, if any, upgrades/mods will need to be done to the brakes, transmission, cooling to properly accommodate a super charger on the 5th gen 4runner platform?

Also why was it that Toyota never made a supercharger kit that was compatible with the newer 4.0L engines? Didn't it have something to do with the variable valve timing of the newer engines versus the older 4.0's on the previous gen Tacoma and 4runner?

More horsepower and torque, at face value, is of course a good thing. But without the appropriate additions/mods to other parts of the vehicle, it's just a maintenance nightmare waiting to happen.

I thought it was less of an incompatibility issue and more of a failing durability tests.

Remember that Gadget has been running a super charger on his 5th gen without issue. At least last I heard. So I don't think it's a durability thing. But who knows these days.

And I can't believe I am still posting in this thread. Haha

If that's the case, I'm letting someone else serve as a ginnie pig before I make a decision on that.

You have to remember that the threshold of "durable" is likely higher for Toyota than aftermarket. Maybe in normal driving, field testing Gadget's kit is perfect. For Toyota, it has to pass a battery of durability tests (redline for X hours, severe hot/cold cycling, etc). Toyota also has less latitude for meeting emissions. Gadget knows his stuff, but you can't be too sore at him if you lose your engine at 250k instead of 400k since the vehicle wasn't designed for an S/C in the first place.

Gadget put me at the front of the list for a urd supercharger!

Had a TRD sc on my 99 t4r, loved every second of it.

Saw the post on their request head out on social media a couple of days ago, but didn't want to say anything here, figured I'd get everyone's feathers all ruffled again!!! :loco: :heh:
