2010+ TRD Supercharger

My little finger told me that the Supercharger will be released for the new REAL 6TH Gen 4 Runners as an option for the Trail and TRD. Start saving around 5k more if you wish to have it straight off the lot from the dealers.

Alright, I'm opening this thread back up because apparently someone is thinking about making a supercharger again. Comments are welcome if they are about a new specific supercharger. The other thread will stay locked because it had nothing but a picture of a 4Runner with the hood raised. If it goes off topic again I will have another vote to lock it. Yea, so basically Magnuson has confirmed on several levels that they have a kit in final testing stages and CARB certification.

A few members have posted that they know people getting beta installs done locally in CA...

I've worked with their kits before. They are very good OEM quality and come with extremely simple step by step install instructions. They also typically include a powertrain warranty but I don't remember all the details on that.

It will most likely come with a hand held programming that will flash their tune into the ECU. Toyota has been cooperating with them on the Tundra kits... and they purchased the right to the TRD line, so this should not require a piggyback tuning system.

Educated guesses below:
It's all speculation and guesswork at this point, but I would expect a 5-6psi kit making a 25% increase in power. It's doubtful the stock bottom end will take much more than 340hp without stronger pistons and rods. But I think 25% is pretty typical. The drivability should be excellent with a very flat torque curve. Price will most likely be 5-7k range. They tend to not impact mpg if you stay out of the throttle as they include an internal bypass. The only real downside of these kits from my past experience with them was heat soak. The air->water inter cooling is not that efficient and they relied on an electric pump to circulate the water. I have no idea if they have improved on this, but it was only a problem in actual racing conditions where WOT was continuous....

I'm curious to see if the kit will require a fuel pump upgrade... which can be one of the most difficult and problematic parts of the install.

I'll be placing my order as soon as it happens. Still not 100% confirmed, but all indications are that is that it is a go. It's been a looooong wait.

If you have any useful info or educated guesses... Post.. If you just want to take this off topic and laugh about it never happening.... move on to another thread. :whip2: If you like this topic.. like this post to show the moderators that we want to keep it open.

I have a Magnuson TVS1900 on my tundra and have been very happy with it. The install was pretty straight forward and thought out. I will assume the fuel system will need to be upgraded with injectors and pump.

They have been around for quite some time.

Yea, install should be similar to the 2017 Tundra.... To give a high level overview of how it goes. Low range offorad (who produce amazing how to videos on Toyota solid axle rebuilds...) Happen to have a video for the Tundra kit install. It's not fully detailed like most of their videos, but it has enough to understand the components involved and shows the OEM like quality of the kits. Looks like they still use an electric pump for the inter-cooler....

And if you ever need to work on a Toyota steering axle... the low range videos are the best.... great company to do business with.

One interesting note here.. They mention the flex fuel versions of the tundra don't require injectors or a fuel pump. This makes perfect sense.. since E85 requires more fuel delivery capacity from the factory. Since our trucks don't support E85, we will surely need new injectors and probably a bigger fuel pump. You will also notice they include colder spark plugs (which is typical for forced induction)

Again, all speculation at this point.....

Semi stupid question (I don't know crap about supercharger).
Is the air intake will remain at the same place, therefore will be compatible with a snorkel?

First off.. All speculation in this thread at this point

I see no reason to move it. They typically keep as much OEM equipment as possible for obvious reasons. It may have a different cover and will most likely have solid tubing to the throttle body.

Thanks. I saw that. But I'm asking whether magnuson performs installs themselves, not a dealer.

They do local installs to make installation videos and to figure out issues on various models... they don't install for a fee (from what I remember) Plenty of authorized dealers... The installs are generally very easy and are written so that anyone with basic skills can do it. The only thing I remember being any sort of a PITA... was messing with in-tank fuel pumps.

Its been a few months back but i went by there to pick up some rebuild parts for my tacoma which has had the TRD SC kit on it since it was new with zero issues, after 200,000 miles i figured it was time to replace some things so i got all new idlers and a new belt.

As i stated in another thread that Magnuson was actually working on the SC for the 4runner and said it was only a few more months out so i got excited and posted online here about it and the thread got locked. They were in tuning stages then, they already had the components built. I am very excited for this i am on the list for one as soon as they are in actual production.

I spoke with a couple reps from magnuson at the off road expo here in az a couple months back, and saw pictures of the supercharger on the 4runner. It is the one on the bench in the photo. As far as the figures you are predicting, thats about what they told me, if i remember correctly.

As a point of reference there are currently two superchargers available today for the 1GR dual VVTi motor (the one in the 5th gen). They are both about $8,000usd by the time you get them shipped.

Bullet Cars - Also recommends/requires? upgraded internals to lower compression and add stronger rods and a piggy back ECU. Claims to make 240hp at the wheels
Bullet Cars - Supercharger Kits Toyota* Hilux Prado 2011 - current model DVVTi 4.0 litre V6 (1GRFE) Toyota Prado

And RGM out of South Africa. Toyota Prado
They're claiming 437hp at the crank and 256hp at the wheels. (I suspect the crank calc is WAY off. 40+% driveline losses is hard to believe.) The same dyno claim is from 174rwhp to 256 rwhp. No info on the website on internal upgrades. They also use a piggy back ECU that's supposedly plug and play. They also delete the cats and use a high flow exhaust (not gonna fly in the USA).

Just something to compare as there are alternative superchargers for the 4.0L dual vvti- but none currently easy to source in the USA nor are they EPA/CARB legal.
