I follow Magnuson on Instagram and seen yesterday that they listed a supercharger kit for the FJ 4.0 and that it was on sale. I asked about the 4Runner and this was his response. Fit kit needed / FJ fit kit needing to be modified and should be a go. Hoping this pans out and has great results. Start saving those pennies.

I'm betting it's nowhere near that simple. It would have been done already. Vvt-i vs dual vvt-i, right?

It's the exact same motor...and the SC just came out for the FJ - don't think someone could have done it already.
Interested to see if there is any potential for this!

They are not the same exact motor, and the charger for the FJ came out years ago. The 1GR in the FJ has vvt-i. The 1GR in the 4r has dual vvt-i. Gadget at URD has been sitting on his one-off for years because he can't get the 4r-specific harness (or whatever it's called) from Toyota. At least, this is what I recall from the other, 30 page, supercharger thread..
I'm thinking right around $5000. . The issue he says is the fit kit and according to him a quality shop can make the fj fit kit work.
Aren't they both dual vvti.
Edit . I see now 4 runner is dual. Thought the same engine for years.

Didn't the Taco have the ability to be supercharged, hell, I thought it was a dealer add on for the 4.0l in the Tacoma?

Ok guys, straight from TRD/Toyota at the FJ Summit in Ouray yesterday. Toyota had the supercharger approved and ready for release when Toyota killed the whole Supercharger program. Magnusson WILL produce the supercharger for the 10+ FJ and 10+ 4Runner. He said that tooling and production is complete, the kits are complete, and it is in legal for signoff and final calibration approval. They even had a signup sheet for Magnusson to help put priority on the release. So it is happening, just have to wait a bit longer.

Wouldn't it be easier to build a centrifugal kit instead of a roots style ?

Thanks for the update , this sounds promising. I've given up on the URD fantasy.
It's almost like they are secretly teasing us. Gadget first promises whipple 5 years ago, TRD keeps teasing every year, TRD scraps, Gadget goes quiet, Gadget says it's close, Magneson comes back in to the picture, Gadget says it's in production. :music:
