2010+ TRD Supercharger

ha!!!!!!! whatever you're smoking pass it on down here please. why don't you go ask LawnDart about raptors vs 4runners in Baja.

It took a 95-100K dollar 4Runner to keep up with stock raptors in a variety of terrains. I have nothing to hide and no agenda to push, I'm just telling you what happened and nothing was staged nor were any advantages given to the 4 platforms there; raptors, jeeps, 4runner, or tundra.

I Agree. If nothing else the Tundra or the LC200 is probably money better spent. Both have proven faster than a Raptor in actual races in the desert and very reliable. Although the 2010 4runner put a faster time in the Baja 1000 than the new Raptor did, so... that's not really saying much. The Raptor is fast in a 1/4 mile. Slow in desert racing - WAY to many broken parts for an overland vehicle to me, but I understand why it's alluring. You'll never see one in Africa for that reason alone. But we don't live in Africa. You can probably get Amazon delivery next day in almost the entirety of north america.

Realistically "overlanding" doesn't exist in america either. That said I have massive respect for vehicles that come off the assembly line that don't immediately require upgrades.

Why don't you ask Canguro. They beat the raptor by 4 hours in the last Baja 1000. In a lc200. Or Toyota. Won the class prior year in a tundra. And beat the raptor in this year's mint 400. The nice thing about race results - they're not subjective. The raptor owns lots of DNF s to go with a few good finishes.

I've been friends with some of the guys running the Raptors in the 500/1000/NORRA, and those guys are trying to break records in addition to finishing.

BJ Baldwin drives a million dollar trophy truck, and hasn't won for a few years now, but those guys are pinning it to win it, and as a result Baja bites back. I don't think I'd say the trophy truck class is somehow less than a lightly upgraded LC200 using the metric of "DNF"

The cool thing about the raptor program is that what you see as a result from those races is product improvements that trickle down to the production raptors. Sadly the same can not be said of the Toyota's as that racing data sadly goes nowhere within Toyota corporate.

I'm supremely impressed with the Raptor program, just like I was really stoked to see the Jeeps kicking ass in Baja, same with the 4Runner at certain points. Every vehicle had their moments to shine.

There was a raptor vs 4runner (apples and oranges) thread that everyone begged to get shut down. Now it comes right back to this thread again. LOL

You guys are amazing! Can we just create www.toyota-4runner.org/raptor and be done with it.

They are neat trucks... I don't personally like them at all because they are the worst thing to happen to off-roading since the side by sides. If you have not encountered a raptor club coming to one of your state/national parks or private offroad parks.. .Get ready... Fun times ahead for those of us trying to offroad responsibly... Unfortunately, everything is a baja practice course to many raptor owners...

I don't understand why it wasn't just moved. I knew people would want more. Hell, it should've been stickied. And how many new KDSS and Bilstein shock threads do we have since it's been shut down?

"You guys are amazing" is right! :snacker:

I think they might consider learning to walk before they run. I'm not sure the raptor has been competitive to win in the recent desert races regardless of how hard they might try. Getting across the finish line is kinda important. In the Baja they never got within sight of the lc200 after the starting line. It's really apples and oranges though. The raptor is based on a street truck. The shocks for example will never last in real offroad use. They're just totally in the wrong spot, no matter how great of damper they use. That's why they broke one off only 10 miles into the Baja. If they're not picking the low hanging fruit - what are they testing? The lc200 is the result of 50 years of iterative improvement. One look at the bottom of both makes it abundantly clear. They're just totally different animals. In a distance race that tests durability, the lc200 will win every time. And it has. In a drag race - the raptor wins easily. Just depends on what you want to do.

Not one production Gen 1 or Gen 2 raptor broke in 1500+ miles of hard offroading in Baja that I witnessed. That's not subjective, that's fact.

I'll likely end up keeping my 4Runner, but the Raptors are extremely impressive vehicles when you see them in the hands of good drivers.

Every vehicle owner has their own brand of stereotypical douchebag subset. Jeep guys flipping over (though FJ Cruisers could be in contention for that these days), RAM guys being rednecks, Raptors being brodozers,...oh and the toyota guys are just as bad.

I'm still a fan of Ford in their commitment to a performance option. The appeal of the TRD supercharger (changing the name of this thread to the 5th gen supercharger, because the TRD in the name implies Toyota still gives a shit about performance) was that if something blew, you could take it into any dealer. Dealing with magnusson for a repair is less than ideal.

Because "You guys" (members) voted to shut it down. I even made it harder by asking for 15 unique likes to a post that wouldn't even have gotten one. So if you have a problem with that then blame your peers, because they voted. If they hadn't I would have moved it to off topic anyway. Might as well compare a Honda Accord to the 4Runner as a Raptor. Not is the same league in stock configuration. Modded to race is even worse. Now it becomes the "who is the better builder" as to who wins.

Here we go again :toilet: Raptor this and Raptor that. Go buy one and be done with it LawnDart just let me enjoy this tread about a wonderful thing called a Supercharger. Before I get upset and turn into a hater of everything Toyota related. :cry2:

Or I dunno people could stop bringing the subject up and tagging me in it, because I'll most likely respond. It takes two to tango, Children!

Came to see if there was any worth while news since people have put eyes on it already. Instead I reminded why I seldom check this board.

Now can we get back on topic? I'll never buy the SC but its till cool to learn about and look at.

I'm more of a Salsa dancer myself, I find Tango too dull to enjoy. Though Hollywood does portray it as a skill set every man should have in his repertoire.

P.S. I too secretly want a R.......... (the villain that almost killed Alan Grant JP)

el oh el.

when i see people make stupid typical brand humper statements i'm gonna tag someone who has first hand experience. If it stirs the pot and causes butt hurt feelings, thats just an added bonus.

Guys on here think their OME setups can run with raptors. twin tube biscuit shocks, GTFO.

I did pick up a 2017 f250, i can basically run baja too now.

Clicked a bold link in the 5th Gen forum for the latest word on the 2010+ Supercharger!

Read a whole page of nothing...

Decided to pitch in with my useless post to stay relevant.. :peep:

:sorry:

Next thing we know some ******* is going to tell us you could run the Rubicon and then put down a faster time in the baja than a Raptor (2009) - in a normally aspirated 4runner. Someone's going to tell us that an LC200 can't win (2009 Stock Full) or beat a Raptor head to head (2016 stock full - 4hrs) or a Tundra TRD Pro can't win (2015 - also beat a prototype head to head) baja 1000, or a Tacoma can't out run a raptor head to head (2017 Mint 400). Or even that you could drive one after work on a Tuesday 700 miles at 85mph to the Rubicon, run the Rubicon, drive 700 miles back, then turn around the next weekend and take the fam on another 700 mile road trip to Great Basin NP and get 20mpg doing it.

The relevance is that if you want a SC (and have the $ to spend on it) there may be better base vehicles with more power. It's kinda like a supercharger for a 4.6L - when it's easier and cheaper to just buy a 5.7L tundra. The GX already has more power. The same with the LC200. There's just a lot of other vehicles with more power that also have the rest of the drivetrain to go with. Unfortunately what you lose in all of them is the ability to go to places like the Rubicon. You start putting on more weight. Larger axles with less clearance. It's a tricky balance. I'm not sure if the 8.2 rear axle is up to the task of 350hp. Maybe it'll be okay, but I think this may be asking a lot. Especially combined with thousand lbs of bumpers and roof racks. Nothing does it all. It depends on what you need for your own use. I find it hard to make the argument in favor of a SC.

I still kinda want one though.

Word on the streets is $5200 or so for the basic kit. They sell a warranty with their kits as an option which you should expect adds to that price fairly significantly.

Hp is on this thread earlier. +80hp. Unknown rpm. Once we know that we'll get a good idea of the performance. We already know a normally aspirated 1gr can push 400hp, but way up in the rpm range. If they're reaching 350hp at 5500 rpm, its better than expected. If its at 6500- well, that's not really much progress.

right, we know all that, i was wondering if we had updated info now that FJsummit is over. havent seen anything new on the instagram feed either, just a bunch of teases.
