I spent 6 months trying to decide between a JGC and a 4Runner. I've owned lots of Toyotas and I still have a Wrangler TJ. After spending months reading Jeepforum where most owners are complaining about major problems the dealership couldn't fix and this forum where people talk about cool mods and an an occasional issue, it was obvious to me.
I was looking for an off road vehicle for the family and the TE is working out well. The KDSS is awesome for driving on winding mountain roads and can't be beat on washboarded dirt roads. The TE can be lifted with the KDSS, while the XREAS can't. If you are just mall cruising and you buy a T4R for the cool looks, definitely go for a limited with more cool features. If you want to get dirty and pin stripes on off road trails, the TE will get you there.

The real irony is that Verdegallardo cites build quality as the primary difference that took him/her to Jeep. It's funny how people confuse "plush" with "quality". Well... it would be funny, if it weren't kinda sad.
The other thing I can never understand is the buyer who says he isn't as concerned about reliability because he won't keep it beyond the warranty coverage period. There are few things I hate more than having to sit in a dealership waiting for a warranty repair on something that should not have failed. The fact that the dealer must fix it gives me no pleasure.
I hope Verdegallardo's dealership has a comfortable and pleasant waiting area.

Perhaps verdeferrariwannabe is a girl, at least I hope so since he bought a girls CAR. Shiny an plush do not equal quality. Ask late 2000 Mercedes owners if their car has spent more time on the road or in the shop. Big thumbs up to Jeep, they continue to sucker punch people year after year.

Unfortunately this guy is going to learn a very expensive lesson here in the next 3-5 years of his life as his car will keep on failing him. It's funny how all the guys on the jeep forum told em to go with a Toyota, but he still bought a crappy domestic

Honestly I never understood how people are so dumb to buy any domestic for that matter. People are sooo gullible these days. If they see a commercial bas****izing Toyota, they believe it. I feel bad for these people, but not really

Without getting in to %origin of content, when does a Toyota become a domestic?

Here's an example: they making civics in america, now they suck, there engine blocks crack...
I'm very disappointed in us quality unfortunately, but Japan is still controlling quality, so there still better then true domestic brands.
I try to buy only vehicles built in japan

Actually you can lift a limited and keep the XREAS (Spacers) or you can remove the XREAS by disconnecting the system at the correct locations so you dont loose the oil and put an aftermarket suspension system just like you would to an SR5 or a TE.

Yup and thats why you lease/date the Jeep. Don't want to be married to her when the warranty expires, and stuff starts breaking!
Yeah, but who wants to spend valuable time at the do for with someone you know you'll throw away? Warranty or not, you are out time and time is money.

A bit off-topic, but my previous 2001 MB S430 was in the shop more than it was driven. The fancy airmatic suspension kept breaking and I frequently came out of my house finding my MB sitting an inch off the ground. Dealer tried to replace everything they could, but could never fix the problem. Needless to say, with a newborn on the way, I quickly traded it in for a new 2004 Toyota Sienna AWD Ltd which gave me great service until I traded it in for my new 2011 4Runner. I don't understand the OP's comments about the cheap Ltd interior. I test drove and reviewed seven SUV's and never found the 4Runner Ltd's interior to be "cheap" To be fair, the interior wasn't as luxurious as the Infiniti QX-56 or a Lexus, but those SUV's are in a different class and cost 15k more.
Maybe the OP got wowed by Consumer Report's initial quality reviews on the Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge. I saw the great quality reviews on the Dodge Durango and even had it on my short list. But I kept having this recurring nightmare about what usually happens to Chrysler products once it hits 36k miles and it was a no brainer to pick the 4Runner. Time = Money for me and as much as I would like to bum around and have free coffee and free wifi at the Service area, I don't have the time for it.
To the OP: Whatever the reasons, enjoy your ride and we'll see you back here in 3 years or 36,000 miles

Toyotas are not perfect my transfer case has the infamous 4th gen leak. Started at 60k and 7.5 years. Out of warrenty. Dealer wants $2500 to fix.
I just made a drip pan to catch the drip and live with it. Also many have had stuck rotors and other problems (leaking cv boots, ac relay) on the 4th gen. Who knows it the 5th gens have been fixed. I have found that most any car can go 60k without many issues and after that it is a crap shoot.
My 91 Jeep Wrangler had few problems over 21 years of off road abuse.
