I don't really want to clog up the other Summit thread since we're using that one mainly for whose coming and the t-shirts, but I thought a place for "everything else" might be good.

I want to keep the second post in this thread reserved for "The List", so please feel free to post or PM me and I'll update that message as more data gets available.

CB COMMUNICATIONS:
  • Okki is bringing his SWR meter for those who need to get tuned.
  • The CB channel for FJ's and 4Runners en route is CHANNEL 8. (This is also posted on Toyota FJ Cruiser Community.)
  • The FJ Cruiser Community is organizing a HAM radio demo. Details: here

Channels:
8 = General FJ Summit
4 = 4Runner
9 = Emergency (not FJ Summit specific)
19 = Information (not FJ Summit specific)

COBRA 75ST DUAL WATCH
1. Set CB to one of the stations you wish to monitor.
2. PRESS and Hold the DW key until a beep is heard
3. Select new channel.
4. Press and hold DW key until a beep is heard.
5. The "DW" icon appears and monitoring begins.
6. Press any key to stop monitoring function

NOTE: The 75 WX ST will alternate between both channels until it receives an incoming transmission. Five seconds after the transmission stops, it will again alternate between both channels.

ON THE TRAIL:
  • Relocate your spare to the inside of the truck or the roof. If you strap it to the roof you can use a coated bicycle lock to secure it to the rack over night.
  • Bring bathroom tissue and a shovel. (Details on wilderness bathroom protocol.)

Since I am down in the great state of Texas and am not familiar with a fire ban, does that mean I cannot use my Coleman cook stove either?

I added a link to the Colorado Division of Emergency Management. it has details as to what is allowed under what kind of ban.

In simple terms Colorado has two types of camping "designated campsites" such as those found in KOA type campgrounds, National Parks, and State Parks.

My understanding is that the current fire ban still allows Coleman type stoves to be used in these areas (plus designated picnic areas) but not "wood" wires.

Colorado also has "dispersed camping" which is primitive camping. No marked campsite, no access to water, no toilets etc. Dispersed camping does not have designated campsites, only large general areas in which to camp. This type of camping is allowed in most areas on State Lands. Currently, these areas will not allow fires, even from a Coleman type stove.

So those of you staying at a campground will be fine with your Coleman type stove. However, no big wood fires in which to melt your beer bottles and cans.

Because most of us don't want to use it as a skidplate :bluejump:

I read in a couple places to remove it in case of steeper angles with boulders.

That's what the hitch receiver is for ! lol Mine is all scraped up from Moab last time where you get alot of that but my spare tire is fine and it's even a 285/70/17. I leave it almost flat so it has some give if it lands on something.

Too awkward and heavy to put on and off the roof plus I like to keep my center of gravity as low as possible for the off camber places . Heck , I even made everybody get on the uphill side of the truck in some places. It's a long way down in some places!

2013 FJ Summit Questions

Folks, registration day is drawing ever closer, and I have a few questions about this year's event.

1. Is there a preferred hotel for the T4R folks?
2. For those going how do you hook up? CB? A rendezvous spot?
3. As a brand new owner and pretty new to 4WD can I hang out with you experts? I haven't driven the passes down here for a long time (maybe 30 years?) and that was with rented jeeps.
4. Do the 4Rs do the trails together?
