2012 Trail Steering Wheel Vibration

I get steering wheel vibration on my 2012 Trail between 60-68mph. I went to the dealer today and they confirmed the vibration and swapped out the 2 front tires after trying to balance the original. Unfortunately, during the test drive with the tech, this did not fix the problem. The tires are the stock Bridgestone H/T tires. With the place closing at 4pm today, we decided to pick up on Monday. They are going to call Toyota to see how to proceed. One thing the tech mentioned was there could be an issue with one of the wheels being out of round.

Any suggestions on what this could be? I've crawl'd (pun intended) through all the vibration 5th gen threads on this forum, which aren't many, and it looks like new tires or rotors solved their problem.

Thoughts?

So they removed the tire and re-balanced the wheel? Most wheel vibration is either balancing issue or alignment issue. I'm surprised they haven't tried to check the alignment.

yes they removed the tire and rebalanced the wheels.

I'm not sure if they've checked alignment yet or not. He may not have done that since it wasn't pulling to one side?
 
i had the same prob on my 2010 honda accord i had bought they did the balancing and changing to new tires and so on and nothing would help. i had to get a lawyer and do the lemon law. that car was a piece of **** . glad i got rid of it and got my 4runner. basically honda was not admitting the problem but they was aware of it.

So they removed the tires, balanced just the wheels, put the tires back on and called it a day?

That doesn't seem right. Are you sure they removed the tires?

They balanced the tires on the wheels. I never saw them just balance the wheels. I'm not even sure if you can balance just the wheel without the tire? The only time they removed the tires was when they put a new set of tires on.
 
Just to clarify..........

1. They first tried to balance all the existing tires/wheels by adding remove lead weights to the wheel. This did not fix the problem.

2. They put on 2 new tires on the front and balanced the front tires. This did not fix the problem.

What to try next? I'm going to go postal if the dealership throws their arms up. I sort of got that impression from the mechanic. "Well we replace the tires we'll have to call Toyota next".
 
I have the same issue... My dealer basically told me it is part of the normal driving of the 4Runner. I've never had this type of issue EVER in any vehicle. The vibrating is very annoying especially on long trips

Total BS. Find a shop with a road force balancer and someone who knows how to use it.
 
My SR5 with 5k miles totally stock does this as well. Same speed range.

Going to bring it up at the oil change service appointment.
 
Mine does this as well at 60-65. When travelling on the flat stretch of hwy but when I start to climb or the engine becomes more loaded its smooth as glass? weird
 
Tacomas are having the same problem. It's throughout the 2005 to present but not in all of them. It is still a problem in the 2012's which is the truck im looking at. If it isn't figured out I will just keep my 02. General consencus is its the driveline
 
Had same problem; re-balancing did not fix it. Toyota changed both front wheels and this solved it.
 
Is it very slight, just barerly feeing, it yet it's there? I have been complaining of feeling something since around 10 k miles, I notice it at 40 and above. I feel it more in the seat then wheel....slight shaking,vibration coming through the vehicle .. Im about to but new tires in the hope it's just that, but if it's not the duellers. I'll be pissed. Was also thinking of adding 5100 to help??? Would stiffer tires help or make it worse...ie p vs load c. I tell ya, with my seat crunching, axle thump at stops, fog headlights and windshield rattle in the winter....it's starting to wear thin on me.....if it wasn't for the looks and capabilities (real suv),,,,,I think I would bail if I can sell my TE near what I paid... Problem is..lot much choice any more.....

Interesting. I'll have them check that on mine. Instead of the tires it may be the wheels? The tech did mention that, but he never pursued it.

I wonder if I just swapped the fronts with the rears if it would identify a bad rim or not?
