2013 4runner hard to shift, starter won't engage.

Hey all,
My 2013 4runner will not shift into anything aside from reverse or neutral. Need to press the neutral safety switch to get the car to start at all.
The gear selector is a ***** to move and feels like there is something in the way. When put into park the "P" appears on the dash but the car will not start, when in the position that should be drive there is resistance and will not actually engage drive also no "D" appears on the dash.

Is there any common issues with this? Is there something anyone can recommend I look at or any better way to diagnose/repair this without bringing it to a shop?

My family and I are moving to Kentucky from New York on Sunday so our four month old son can grow up with his grandparents. This is really putting a wrench in the gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you pulled any codes?

I bet you get a P0705. Which is the Nuetral Safety/gear range switch.

There are a couple recent threads about it including one of mine. Took me about 6 hours to change as it was rusted solid to the trans shaft.

The OP does not mention any warning lights on the dash, but I also would suggest getting a code reader and pulling the error codes.
