2013 - SR5 Transmission Issue

Hi All,

Earlier today I noticed that my 4runner wouldn’t shift past 3rd gear, it also didn’t appear to want to downshift. However if I would come to a complete stop and start it would seem to start in 1st. Just prior to this I felt a slight shudder (almost like gear hunting) as I was pulling onto the highway)

Shifting manually works up and down 1st, 2nd, 3rd but 4th and 5th nothing.

I’m within the power train warranty and it’s sitting at the dealer as I type this but since I’m naturally inquisitive I’m reaching out for others thoughts.

P.S I looked for the obvious sign of transmission fluid , and also looked for the dip stick to check but wasn’t able to find one (and think there isn’t one since it wasn’t mentioned in the owners manual)

I wanted to post a followup. The dealer wasn’t able to recreate the problem however they did notice that the gear shift linkage was difficult to move between gears and that the vehicle wouldn’t start when in neutral.

They lubed the linkage (this made a noticeable difference) and adjusted the neutral safety switch.

The problem hasn’t co,e back, however I’m suspect of the linkage issue being the root cause of the issue.

Either way it’s documented in the event the issue crops up again and it happens to be outside of the power train warranty.
