you do realize the sequence number is the last 6 digits of a vin, not 5. numbers 12-17 are the sequence number and if im correct, they are for the generation not calendar year.
edit : you can only use the last 3 digits if the manufacturer makes less than 500 vehicles/year.
euro uses digits 10-17 for sequence number.
