2014 4Runner

At first it turned me off, but it is growing on me. It would look best in dark colors.

Perhaps if they didn't just shove round fog lights into the front vents. Looks like the designers forgot to put them on and just threw them in at the last minute.

Maybe pry them out and put in some long bright off road LED driving lights in those "fangs."

I wish they would do a powertrain upgrade and for crying out loud loose the skinny tires.

Maybe with a plate front bumper, new wheels and tires, a lift, and some plasti-dip it wouldn't be that much different from the current one.

Summary of 2014 changes

Best as I can glean from the Toyota release and from you eagle eyes over 26 pages of comments, the following are the changes known to date for the 2014 4Runner.

Obviously this is not going to be perfect, but it's a thorough first stab. Please feel free to add/subtract anything in comments and I will post an edited list once everyone has chimed in.

Summary of changes to 2014 4Runner:

SR5/TRAIL
• Projector headlamps in new housings
• New (bug collecting) front valence, with repositioned fogs and elimination of lower signals/DRLs.
• New LED tail lamps (but same size as old to retrofit; filament turn signals; LED side light)
• In-glass antenna
• New 17-inch rims for SR5 and Trail (likely not same, not yet known)
• New colour-matched side mirrors with integrated signals and puddle lights
• Standard chrome roof rack
• Colour matched overfenders and bumpers (Trail)
• Dark grey/black metallic centre console
• Black and leather steering wheel with new buttons
• Cargo side windows now with defrost
• New colours: Super White; Attitude Black Metallic; Barcelona Red Metallic; and Nautical Blue Metallic
• Soft-touch door trim, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather shift knob
• New Optitron instrument panel that houses speedometer, tachometer, voltage, fuel and coolant temperature gauges, plus a multi-information display showing outside temp, time, average fuel/instant economy and other trip stats
• Range and temp in centre stack display now in blue
• More sculpted back to front seats for additional knee space in second row
• Available SofTex seats with coloured stitching (and heat?)
• New dash material above glove box
• Standard eight-way power driver seat (SR5)
• Standard rear-view backup camera
• Standard Entune™ Audio Plus
• Party Mode now linked to Facebook and Twitter accounts to increase tailgate party participation
• Unknown location for front plate
• Power outlet in middle console for rear seat passengers

LIMITED, with the above changes, plus:
• 20-inch Limited wheels now black and chrome tuning fork design (instead of chrome/grey)
• Chrome-plated grille insert and chrome front bumper that extends to the fog-lamp bezels
• Ventilated (cooled) driver and front passenger seats in addition to heat
• Seat memory settings
• Front and rear sonar —*plus backup camera
• Entune Premium JBL Audio system

Thanks for this listing! It was hard figuring out what has added, etc. This makes it a whole lot easier.

I still think they should of kept the fender flares of the trail black. Trail really lost its rugged look. I was actually thinking of trading my 09 4runner for a '14 trail. Looks like I will be keeping my '09.

The traces on the side cargo windows are the "in-glass antenna" not a side window defrost, I believe.

Not sure that one got asked yet lol...no its not a 6th gen, simply a mid-generation refresh just like Toyota has done in the past.

The 2011s up have the flip forward headrest to clear the front seat when folding flat.

You turn the knob and it folds the headrest forward and flat, so you can flip the entire seat back down into the groove in the underside of the seat base, when you are trying to fold the 2nd row flat. Holy run-on sentence

Dang... Lot of curves on the top line of that bumper. Adding an after-market one looks like its goin to be a pain/$$.

I'm glad to see projector headlights though. Same trend as what they did for the 4th gens - reflector, then after mid-update, projector headlights.

I actually really like the 5th gen 4Runner. I'm glad Toyota decided to keep this a true SUV instead of turning crossover like other companies (then again, Toyota as a BUNCH of other SUVs to fit those looking for crossovers). I'll be looking for a used 5th gen when my 3rd gen craps out...10 years from now, ha!
