The front end is a personal preference so either you like it or not. The silly emissions stuff is what it is. Upgraded interiors? Good on them.

But what annoys me are the little things such as taking a second to put in some smart storage locations which would cost next to nothing. The 4th gen had nice storage over the rear wheels like many of us did by breaking the top dish. Well, everyone but Harper. The FJ has a cool storage box in the top dash. Others have nifty storage in the door.

Would I not buy because of the lack of them? Obviously not but it should would be nice to have.

Dave, I agree. cell phones, sunglasses, ink pens, drinks, and so forth.

Not having a third row gives space in back below the floor. I carry many tools and supplies in those compartments.

The audio system makes a big difference. From what I can see, there is a nice open area on the right rear side of the cargo area without the fancy speaker system, but it is boxed-in with the fancy speaker system. I did not at first know this before I bought my Explorer, as all I had seen had the boxed-in right rear side. then I happened to see one at a car show without that, and bought one that way. It makes a big difference in my ability to carry things. here is a photo with relatively few of the items I often need - (that 17' little Giant ladder is 55" collapsed):

Based on the recent reviews stating 40-50k 4runner's are sold per year, I am hoping it will continue to live on! To me, that many sales has to make Toyota enough cash to keep it going, right?(not accounting for the shared platform with GX and FJ too).

I also hope the 6th gen model (if it comes to be) gains a V8 option or a more robust V6 and tranny with more gears for better acceleration.

That is utterly hideous. The chrome strip on the Limited looks like packing material put there for protection during shipping that the dealership forgot to remove. The person who though of it should have to wear one on his head and the person who approved it shot.

Thats embarrassing. Interior looks decent though.

Makes me love mine even more and want to hang onto it like grim death.

for every gen there is gonna people who hate the look. me i've have a 3rd gen (1998), 4th gen (2004), and hopefully soon a 5th gen (2014).

i like the current 4runner before and after refresh but thats just me. now i wish the big chrome strip wasnt there, but i will still get a LE cause the most important parts are more on the plus side compared to the one negative that is the chrome strip.

to me it really doesnt matter what they look like, i still like them based on what is inside the skin (how cliche was that).

If your Legacy is paid off and reliable, keep it and drive it into the ground. It will be far cheaper doing that than buying a new vehicle, even if your trade-in value is $0.

You are a year off. 03-09 = 4th gen

the problem is that all X gen production years overlapped if im not mistaken, model years didn't. so they were producing 4th gen in 2002, it came out as a 03 model. in fairness I should have made the chart better to denote production/model years.

yeah but the 6" ground clearance is an issue getting to work where its winter 6 months of the year and I have to be on the road before the plows hit my sub-division.

when I have to steal the warden's Tacoma to get to work, that doesn't work out so well in the keeping the warden happy.

plus old age and sitting next to the ground don't help these old bones getting in and out and the warden really really hates getting into the legacy cause it sits to low.

on top of the other little issues, im done with the legacy. just to say for Subaru, the AWD system in the legacy never once had any issues or let me down since I bought it in nov-09.

edit: another thing to add, the vent visors and bug shield are 1st class from Subaru. the bug shield alone was worth it. I mean who would have to thought to put a foam insert between the bug shield and hood at the leading edge to ensure the shield never hits the hood or seals the gap so it doesn't whistle at highway speed. and the vent visors even match the chrome on the door so when you put them on it matches exactly the original chrome on the door frame.

I would consider the tundra. they took out so much soft padding in the Tacoma and replaced it with hard plastics, my elbows scream in pain on long trips resting on the window sill. the warden could care less since she only drives it in town and makes me drive the long trips.

I'm excited to see the new interior in the '14 Tundra. Sounds like it is a massive improvement. Taco will get a completely new design 1 year from now, too. I imagine they'll vastly improve the interior there as well.

We went to Santa Margarita Toyota today just to see if they had an ordering guide (no), and to look at the cargo compartment, key in my decision, and they had no 2013 models left. We will just wait until the auto show in October to see a 2014 model.

How can you hold the steering wheel properly with both hands and have your elbow on the window sill? That would be very uncomfortable.

In my opinion, here is the 5th gen "looks" ranking.

'14 TE (white) > '10-'13 TE > '14 SR5 > '14 TE (non-white) > '10-'13 Canada SR5/4cyl SR5 > '10-'13 V6 SR5 > '10-'14 Limited > '14 Limited

So, our trucks are 3rd worst. :lol: I still love my '10 SR5, but if I were buying today, it would be a '14 TE Premium in white no questions asked.
