I can't wait to see all of the "5th gen projector headlight mod" and "WTB 2014 taillights" threads start to pop up like they did with the 4th gens. And just like in the 4th gen forum, all of the "HID question" and "problems with my HID's, help!" threads. Coming over to the 5th gen forum to troll from time to time has been a breath of fresh air for me. 
After driving a 5th gen for the first time the other week (had one as a rental car out in Vegas), it made me wonder what else will come with the 2014 refresh. I'll be curious if they integrate the antennas into the rear windows again and do away with the mast antenna, add additional color options and ditch others, change internal button placement and/or ergonomics, etc.
Unfortunately my 4th gen only has 86k miles on it, so I'm going to have to wait until the 7th gen mid generation refresh before I buy another 4Runner....

I saw that too. The headlight reminds me of that Mitsubishi. And when gen 5 first came out I wished the rear bulbs weren't FJ stickyoutyish. Now I feel toyota neutered our the brand if they make it flush.
It'll either be a sick front end, or just turn the 4runner into a slightly bigger highlander. Either way the magic eight ball see's mommy mobile in the 4runner future. Lord, I hope I'm wrong.

The refreshed 5th Gen is going to address the fact that it doesn't look hardcore enough, or luxurious enough and hopefully fix it. I love my 5th gen but there isn't one thing in it that even hints at the slightest bit of luxury, while the Grand Cherokee's interior is becoming like the inside of a luxurious mountain lodge somewhere complete with bearskin rugs and mahogany surfaces.

But we all know that's not going to give you extra millage on the life of the truck? I really love my truck from every single perspectives.
I changed what I didn't like about it.
The only thing that would blow me away on this refresh is if they somehow doubled the gas millage, because I get max 17 MPG. And if they totally decked out the tech stuff.

Most consumers have little appreciation for the underlying quality and longevity the 4Runner offers (unlike most here) as they are far more emotionally dim-witted and likely to overlook these fine attributes for the more "luxurious" and often unnecessary accompanyments offered in other far inferior vehicles because they look, smell, and feel better NOW. Toyota needs to feed the juvenile mall-crawlers and tame the beast to get more 4Runners on the road otherwise they may not sell them anymore.
Bottom line is everything and women especially need to be happy with them or they won't sell. Usually if Wilma don't like it, Fred ain't buyin' it.

Yeah, you are right but you don't have to be a mouth breather or a princess to appreciate a little bit of extra swag.

To me it seemed a purposeful move that Toyota went down market from the pseudo-luxury of the 4th gen due to the collapse of the golden era of the SUV. Having one competitor in the smoldering remains of what once was doing the opposite compelling them to move back in that direction would be interesting to witness.
It seems they want you to move up to a Lexus platform for that now.

Yeah, you guys are right. I just feel like they could take some of Jeep Grand Cherokee's sales with a bit of extra premium feel without forcing people to spend 10-20K extra to get into the Lexus.

Agree--love the 5th Gen. TE, but if could just improve the quality of "plastics" a bit (and get rid of two tone black/gray dash and go all black) and add a little more headroom . . . at the least, that would be an appreciated improvement. I am 6'4" and the Trail's standard sunroof drops the headroom height over an inch+ putting my head in the liner--hate that.
As far as Lexus price range . . . Edmunds quotes the RX350 as starting at $39,660 so really, the 4Runner TE and Limited . . . both over $40K MSRP . . . are in the Lexus price ballpark (and the TE interior is nowhere near as plush as a Lexus . . . of course granted a Lexus does not perform in "extreme" off-road like a TE either).
If Toyota added to the 4R . . . a 6-speed, more HP and direct injection . . . this would just about knock it out of the park . . . ahhh to dream.
