I really want to like it but it seems to me big T did us a favor ensuring our resale value. Inside is nice and I appreciate the lack of antenna.
Wish they would reskin my entune with the big square buttons. I've always though thin rectangular buttons are hard to press while driving.
Note the continued lack of a 6 speed tranny. What gives?
In any case it's ok. Front end is fugly IMO. Dunno what they were going for.

So by EPA's saying, everyone that bought a 4Runner 2013 have been duped on the MPG figure:
2010-2012 fuel economy 4X4 (all the same):
2013 fuel economy 4X4:
Then, reading an article on the 4Runner 2014:
The 2014 gets back the lost MPG from the year earlier.
Just for the sake of it, 1 mpg is 4500$ over 10 years in fuel for my mileage/fuel price.

They aren't all black. The wheel is painted black initially but then it goes back through a machining process where you get a nice machined face but black accents. This is the effect:
As far as the Limited, it sounds like it gets the same bumpers but some chrome splashed around and different side skirts (hopefully not the current ones with the new bumper).
The SR5 sounds like it will be what is pictured minus the gray faux skids on the bumper and minus a hood scoop. That would effectively make the TE more of a hardware package instead of interior/exterior and hardware. Interesting to note that the TE and SR5 come standard with cloth (no more waterproof cloth?) and can be upgraded to leather. Leather steering wheel is standard (thank god!). Gray interior is still available apparently.
Super white TE with all black leather interior is what I'd have bought first time around.

The headlight design resembles Audi headlights on the RS5, and sort of on the S4...except Audi didn't go with bugeye mounting:

Overall I like the update. Happy to see the orange instrument panel go. The trail now looks like a premium instead of base model. Softex looks good Hope the mast antenna is gone as well
I'm buying a new vehicle in December and as of now I expect it will be a 2014 4runner unless a new Tacoma is introduced with a higher gvwr.

I agree. I would prefer that he TE keep the black wheel well trim, and that it spilled over to the SR5 as the Canadian models do. However, it looks like Toyota is making the TE more like the SR5/Limited. I'm not sure that I like the sculpture of the new tail lights, but I do like the way the re-sculpted hood reduces the bulkiness of the front end. That was the main reason that I liked the black wheel well trim on the TE - it reduced the bulky look of the front fenders. I'm not a fan of the new instrumentation, but I do like the leather(ette) option and the sleek new shifter handle. Now if the offer a tan interior for the TE, I might be sold. If not, I might do a TE conversion on my 2010 and call it good. All said and done, the things I don't like about the midterm refresh probably would not stop me from buying a 4Runner, if I didn't have one. I'll reserve judgement on trading for a 2014 until I see one in the flesh in the new color combos.

I just don't understand why Toyota is so slow to upgrade the 4Runner's transmission to 6 or more speeds. The R&D and retooling costs would be minimal and I seriously doubt reliability would decline, but the extra 1 or 2 MPG on the highway would definitely mean money saved for the owners. I think Toyota is guilty of using owner loyalty and owner satisfaction as an excuse not to upgrade it's powertrains more frequently, knowing most of us won't jump ship to another brand if they stretch out the product life cycle of their powertrains.
I read somewhere that the the 2014 Corolla is finally being upgraded from an ancient 4-speed to a 6-speed. With the new CAFE mileage requirements on the horizen, Toyota's SUV's and pickup trucks should get at least a 6-speed transmission in the near future. Dare to dream. . .

Toyota is simply not offering 4 Runner customers the latest proven technology they have to offer. It is more than the 6 spd. The Lexus 460, same basic vehicle as 4runner with more frills, already has the 6 spd, and V8, and actually gets the same highway milage as the 4runner. I personnaly drove in one and experienced it directly.
The real problem is no competition. What other choice do you have in an SUV with body on frame with a great maintenance track record. The 4 Runner is a cash cow, so they have no reason to give us the best technology has to offer.

The change in mileage from 10-12 to the 2013 is the EPA forced Toyota to add new emissions equipment. The 10-12 is LEV and 13 is ULEV. This also took over the space in the engine compartment for a 2nd battery.
I suspect that the actual difference from 12-13 was less than 1 mpg and only shows up on the sticker due to rounding so getting it back for 2014 wouldn't take significant changes.
12 lost the JBL stereo. 13 added more emissions crap. 14 ruined the styling. How are they going to make it even worse for 2015?

They only thing i really want is the leather steering wheel and shifter. But i could have just got those from a limited if i really cared enough. Also puddle lamps would be nice in the mirrors to light up the ground when I'm camping. The wheels are a definite downgrade in my opinion and the the front bumper looks more "fragile". I think if the 2014 SR5/limited looks like the 2014 trail in the pics it would be an upgrade because i think the body kit on the older SR5/Limited has always made the 4runner look very crossover like. Also painted front and rear lower bumpers and fender flairs is going to scratch so easily while offloading in the trail model. The new interior does look nice though so that would be the biggest upgrade in my opinion.
All in All im still ok with my 11. Glad they didn't include some crazy fuel saving device and bump up the MPG to like 30mpg or i would be pissed ;-)

I've never seen a 4Runner so ugly. That front end is terrible!
I guess that means in a couple years I'll have to find a 2012-2013 Trail...
