Color keyed fenders are part of the TE now. The press release calls this out. (Honestly, 90% of everyone's questions are answered there.) Looks like they'd be easily wrapped black if you so desired.

You never know with the wiring harnesses or connectors until someone gets this in their hands. I assume we'll see quite a few tail light swaps if it's plug-n-play. Some people just don't like the noticeable red on the 10-13; some people don't like the clear/euro type of 14. I think the 14 tails will look good on the lighter colors - silver, BP

Bottom line is that these changes, love them or hate them, are really not anything significant to send an early 5th gen owner running to the dealer for an upgrade. Some may, but this is typical mid cycle Toyota refresh as mentioned.

Maybe we'll see previous TE cues everyone liked on actual production cars. The roof rack and fenders do suggest this was perhaps an SR5 they used as the pre-pro build (but someone mentioned color fenders were mentioned in PR...?).

For us 10-13 SR5 and Limited guys, it looks like the painted fender flares from the 14 TE will allow us to keep a low profile rocker panel for sliders without resorting to hacking up our OEM rockers. You should only need the front flare, the rocker, and the door flare to have a nice clean slider install on the pre-refresh SR5/Limited.

There is a new interior color for the Limited as well: Redwood. Figuring it is a dark red/brown?

I don't know if it's my generation or not but I really like the refreshed look, as do I really like the refreshed Tacoma, I think Toyota is currently doing well in the small truck market. I just hope there still built as well as they use to be.

?? You can take the current TE fender molding, mud guard, and rocker panel and they fit like a charm on the current Limited. Have mine painted to match the rest of the trim and body color.

I was thinking that too, but the current TE fender molding curves closer towards the body. I'll have to check the pics showing my old LE molding in order to see if the mudguard cap from the '14 would might match the profile....

Yeah, it almost looks similar to the Shrockworks rocker piece.

But could you try editing out the bottom half of the grill? bring the red body color across to make a bumper from the black piece down? make it look like a normal bumper. I think that will look awesome.

this front end has a gas mask or pig nose kind of look to it.

I like what you've done so far, toyota went a little overboard with the front end on this one. way too much going on.

I don't like the idea of a painted mud guard on a white vehicle like my SR5. There is a small chance you could buy these prepainted, too.

I've reserved judgement of this for a few days to give the new design time to grow on me. Here is what I think as of today:

The interior, hands-down, is a major upgrade. Anyone who complained that the current interior lacked class, and felt and looked cheesy; you're comments have been heard and answered.

The exterior - I'll start in the rear. They obviously didn't listen to the numerous surveys I (and I'm sure many others) completed regarding the exhaust smell in the cabin when the rear window is down and re-route the exhaust out the side.

they elongated the rear mudflaps. was that necessary? just more likely to get ripped off IMO.

I can do without the 4th gen-esque chrome on the rear bumper. I like the tail lights - I guess. The more I look at them the more I appreciate the simplicity of the current tails.

I don't like the side-view mirrors. Decide on plastic or color matched, but not both.

The front - I really like the headlights. As someone who has retrofitted a pair of current headlights, these take care of the hardest part, which is nice.

The grille is very big. that would make one monster satoshi. and again, the 4th gen-esque chrome piece is dumb.

I miss the turn signal/DTRL next to the fogs. And I especially don't like the fake air dam things they've replaced them with. I love [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION]'s Predator comparison - that's right on.

like others have said, I'm very happy with mine, as compared to this new one. I do think the 2014, in black, or in another dark color will look much better and make the fake air dams and grille look less obnoxious.

very long story short, if I was looking for a vehicle, and had the choice of either of these, I'd still choose mine :becky:

Given the DRL/Turn Signal is gone, where in the headlamp assembly is the turn signal? Is that sharp line that runs down the top like a reverse check symbol an LED strip??

I think the refresh is mostly as expected, even if the front end got a bit wild. As an architect, I like bold and original designs. It might take some time to appreciate, but it's not bad.

That said, I much prefer my 10. The 10-13 will now always be the most masculine looking 4Runner. I never wanted projector beams, LED tails, or chrome, don't like auto climate and prefer knobs to buttons, so I lucked out with my 2010 Trail I guess.

I really hope they did something to increase throttle response at low speeds. What a disappointment they did not go to at least a 6 speed automatic trans.

But the headlights with the fog lights underneath makes it look like it's crying. I know, I'm weird, but that's what I imagine from the front view is tears coming from the headlights. That too will pass as I see it more.

Fiona, it is so funny you say this. When I read your post yesterday, I understood it, but I didn't really see it . . . I almost posted you might consider the fog lights to be "dimples".

Then, a few minutes later my 3 year old daughter came over (she loves trucks and is the joy of my life ). She was very excited to see the 2014 we have been waiting on before making our TE purchase decision. I asked her, "do you like it?" She said YES! But then she hesitated and said, "ahhh, why is she so sad?" I asked . . . "why, what do you mean?" She said, "she's crying" as she pointed to the two round fog lights under the headlights . . . and then I got it. Now, everytime I look at the front end I now see it too--what has been described as "gills" under the headlights look like tear streaks (I mean that "gill" goes all the way up to the corner of the "eye" (corner of headlight)) . . . with the foglight being the tear drop. I can only hope Toyota modifies this a bit before the actual realease, bkz I don't want to be driving a "sad" truck!

Clearly Toyota mistakenly never got the female perspective on this.
