Sand beige with Silver? That's not a combination I would want to see. You sure that is available?

Currently if you go to Toyota's website and use the configurator, the SR5 and SR5 Premium can pair Silver with Sand Beige in both cloth and leather. The Limited edition locks out Silver and Mag Grey with the selection of Sand Beige. SR5 is not currently available in Blue, however, Shoreline Blue on the Limited can be paired with Sand Beige so I'd imagine the new blue will continue that.

Guessing that translates to what is the premium pkg on the '13, which also would include navigation but I'm not sure what will be a package vs a regional a la carte feature. Still learning how Toyota works. Would prefer silver, gray or the new blue. Anything but black or white exterior. Will ventilated front seats and smart key be options only for the limited? Thanks for offering to shed some light on this!

Thanks! I have two yellow labs and black seats are no fun. I can line carpet. Mag gray would be my preference for exterior color, with tan or light gray interior. Ventilated seats will spoil you but if they are limited only so be it. Third row, four wheel drive and heated seats are what I need (or is it want? I forget) but auto climate and navigation may give me stuff-itis.

Looking forward to the 2014 arriving at dealers. Production must be starting soon if not already...launch the website and load up the ship!

You can special order your Toyota any way you want, as long as it has any of the 5 pre-approved packages in combinations that regional dealers are requesting/allocating.

Just because you can theoretically configure one the way you want, doesn't mean it exists--or ever will. There's always the mythical car shopper who ordered the "base model," waited 6 months for it to arrive from Japan then beat the detail guy from the dealership half to death for trying to pin stripe his truck and put on a dealer license plate cover... that and the "base model" cost within 1 grand of a discounted truck they had on the lot.

I wanted a blue TE. There weren't any at the time. I could have ordered one for 41 grand and waited, or taken a deal on a Silver, heavily optioned KDSS/Entune rig in S. Fla for 37.5 ish. So mine's silver. Like every other damn truck I've owned. The wife's LE is white with beige interior. Becuase people want them that way.

Yeah my guess is that Silver/Beige would be in much smaller production numbers than Silver/Black. The dealer will find it if they want to make the sale, and if they can't find it they will order it when the 2014's open up depending on which route you go.

Toyota posted this today on the 4Runner's Facebook page with a message:

Maybe photos of the SR5 and Limited will be released this week?

Toyota just posted a picture of the Limited badge on the side (facebook), hopefully information starts to flow on the other models soon.

You can special order, but it will take at least 3 months. They are more likely to find the config you want a few states away or have the dealer watch for one that is already scheduled to be built. My Prius was a special order from Japan.

The Lexus is ruled-out by that bizarre side-swinging cargo door. Worse yet, it swings the wrong way for left-hand drive vehicles.

As for the 5-speed, I agree it is less of an issue than the independent rear suspension and V8.

Solid front axle? Ugh! Other than a drive across grass or a dirt construction site every three or four years, I have no desire to ever go off road. My Explorer has rear wheel drive, and I'd not pay more to have 4/AWD on any other rear wheel drive vehicle. The Explorer does have a limited slip differential, and that makes a world of difference in slippery conditions (I lived in St Louis, then DC until I was 32, so know about snow & ice).

By the way, Toyota is missing trumpeting a sales point. They have a 10-way power seat, as does my Explorer, yet they only call it an 8-way. I rented a Grand Cherokee during a recent trip to Texas, and the seats in it have less adjustability, so it was uncomfortable to drive. My Explorer and the 4-Runner seats have bottom cushions which go up and down in front and up and down in back, while the Jeep has just one up and down combined with the back and forth. Those are 8-way seats.

And when is this "media reveal" going to take place and where? The more high tech interior might be appealing along with any new colors. Mostly the interior glitz.

As you see, the omissions are an independent rear suspension, V8, and 8-10 speed transmission.

What is does offer are:

- rear wheel drive, the best design for vehicles
- a nice wide rear cargo area, not one boxed-in as with most other SUVs
- medium size, so it is easy to park

We would all have to see one and drive one a decent distance to have other comments. I once bought a Toyota minivan and had to sell it after a few weeks, as the seats and left-slanted steering column produced severe neck and upper back pain which lasted into the day after driving it, so a good test drive to me has to be at least 100 miles, especially in a Toyota. FYI, my body was not the problem. I've driven my Explorer 158,500 miles thus far with no problems being comfortable.

Is this event subject to embargo? I'm looking forward to the slightly refreshed interior, specifically the info display and gauges. New navigation systems alway seem to be behind the times. Exterior styling is not a concern and not why I will buy a 4runner. No third row on the trail is still puzzling. Will the base price increase with more standard features? Thank them for continuing to make one of the only "real" SUV's left and not a glorified minivan.
