Great question. I would imagine with the advent of soccer moms driving SUV's-disguised-as-4X4-hybrids manufacturers thought steel was not needed. Hell, my ex-wife drove every vehicle we owned into or against something. Old school steel bumpers sure would have lessened my out-of-pocket expenses.

It is interesting that they spent the money to have a different front on the Limited version. In photos, I prefer the SR5 front. It reminds me of the 1988 Pontiac Bonneville SSE I had, and the magazine review of it which suggested that it would scare slow-pokes in the left lane into getting out of the way. It did seem to have that effect.

If they keep with the 2013 option arrangement, getting leather seats requires getting the sun roof and the fancy sound system. I don't want a sunroof, and the fancy sound system would surely mean one side in the cargo area boxed-in, space I need for things I carry. That means the SR5 is probably the best one for my needs.

I didn't take too many pics as people were all over them and a 100 deep waiting line to eat at the dinnerf stretched around the pass side.Mostly interested in the Limited/SR5 changes since there wasnt much info out on them yet. The SR5 and TE look exactly the same now except for the hood scoop and silver bumper accents on the The TE interior however is much nicer now with the soft faux leather with accent stitching,dark gray and black interior.

The Limited got some nice interior upgrades as well with memory seats and individual air ventilated leather seats that cool or heat and much softer leather more like the Lexux and some faux woodgrain.The LE is my favorite still with the full time 4x4x and the straight cutoff of the front bumper trim would make it much easier for an aftermarket bumper design.They do look better in person but still keeping what I have though!

Arghhhhhh I love the saddle brown leather seats and the memory sets along with the ventilated seats are a dream come true for me.........I wonder how much I can get for my 12 LE???????

The new face of the Limited -- I think it is growing on me; especially the side profile photo.

The fake wood trim inside? Not so much. I also like the cleaner look of the Limited's old optional nav with the CD slot hidden behind the screen. I'm sure the new version is better/updated, so probably worth the trade off.

The ventilated seats are a nice addition. It's too bad they couldn't figure out a way to keep the switch where the current heat-only controls are. I can see two plastic covers to fill in the now vacant slots in the console.

Glad to see the automatic running boards are still available (can see the button in one of the interior shots).

The Toyota PR mentioned LEDs up front and in back. Anyone know of the DRLs are now LEDs? If so, kind of sad to see the amber (turn signal) DLRs go in favor of now ubiquitous LEDs, but I guess that's "progress."

Is that leather in the TE? Or is it some special material? Interesting to see the omission of weather resistant cloth.

Some other notes on the 2014s:

- They put even more stuff in the engine bay. Putting an auxiliary battery in there will be even more of a challenge than on the 2013.

- As [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] mentioned, the SR5 looks almost identical to the trail now aside from the hood scoop. The SR5 rocker panels are much tighter to the body, and you will likely not have to do any trimming or removal to install sliders. Also, the front and rear bumper have much more clearance now for approach and departure.

- [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] noticed that the stock skid plates on the Trail are much lower due to KDSS.

- Headlights and tail lights will *not* be plug and play with earlier models.

One thing with the '10-13: the SR5 and Limited were virtually identical outside save for the badges, Limited's wheels and the SR5's reverse sensors.

With the '14, the Limited will be easy to distinguish from the other models. Or looked at another way, the '14 SR5 will be easy to distinguish from the '10-13 SR5.

Now...is there enough to make me upgrade from my '12...I don't know...

The Limited grille looks better in these photos than the earlier ones. I still prefer the TE/SR5, but things aren't as dire as first thought. Exterior wise, the '14 SR5 is miles beyond the '10-'13, IMO. No more stupid, oversized rockers with silly front and rear skirts. The wheels looks appropriately outdoorsy, too. Some knobby tires will look fantastic on the new SR5. I foresee that TE roof racks or aftermarket full racks will be in high demand on the new SR5 where they look sort of silly on a stockish '10-'13 SR5.

Still, the pick of the litter is the TE. The TE just got a lot better via the great all black interior. Super white TE will replace my '10 if I should be unfortunate enough to need to replace my '10 SR5. Or a redesigned Tacoma with the DI 3.5L 2GR.

Same as the current SR5. I didn't see any buttons for self-parking, so my assumption is the sensors are for the forward-facing proximity sensors.
