with the gx460 you can get all the options in one model

crawl control
kdss
heated/cool front seats, rear outboard heated seats
3rd row standard that fold flatter than the 4runner
higher tow rating

then you dont have to compromise between getting a TE or the LE, get one with both in it.

personally i went the LE as i have zero chance of ever using crawl/kdss and prefer the luxury side the 4runner.

You make a strong case! I think we are still settled on the a new LE. It has more than enough off road capability and we don't have a boat or trailer to tow. We were both expecting the gx460 to beat the 2014 4runners on road behavior and it really seemed to be a wash.

I'm having a hard time fully understanding the benefit of the KDSS. It separates the roll bar for more wheel travel in offroad situations right? So this is a benefit for off road use, but won't really change the on road ride compared to the LE right?

Thanks for the replies. We are strongly leaning towards the LE vs CPO gx460. Really, either one I'm sure would be great.

We will not opt for the factory RSES and instead go with something aftermarket. 2 year olds don't hold on to ipads that well so something fixed to the ceiling or headrests is what the wife wants. Plus the aftermarket stuff seems to be about half price compared to factor units.

you can look around and those with kdss have said on road manners are better with it than those w/o it.

the xreas on the LE give about the same manners as the kdss, but i havent driven a kdss version as other options/features were higher on my list than kdss.

and yes kdss is more for off road but has a side benefit of better on road manners.

yes on the seats but only the front (but they are not cooled, just vented. i think the lexus are cooled by the a/c but not sure)

only the lexus you can option the rear outboard heated seats.

I know this thread is about the 2014 4Runner, but the topic of the GX460 has come up a few times. Chances are there are several people reading who have considered the GX460, especially since they just dropped the base price almost $5K. I’ll chime in since I just test drove a 2014 this past Saturday. I’m a v8 guy, as you can see from my handle. I was seriously looking forward to it since I had high hopes for the v8 and got the wife’s buy-in for the upcharge. As much as I wanted to like it, I just didn’t. The v8 is nothing like the 4.7 from the 4th gen and everything else that Toyota put it in. If I am not mistaken, the engine in the GX460 was designed for the Lexus LS460, not trucks. It does not have the effortless acceleration of my ’03 v8 SE or the previous gen GX470. Along with that, you just feel disconnected from the road and there is no fun factor. I am not knocking it because it is still an excellent vehicle that I would be happy to have. Taking price out of the equation, I would still take a 4Runner LE over a similarly equipped GX460, in spite of the fact that a v8 is a huge priority for me.

The KDSS swaybars are huge which help you stay flat when cornering on road.

It's both front seats that are heated and ventilated on the 2014 LE, correct? I feel like toyota and the guy at the dealer we have visited twice do a very poor job of making this info available. I just seached and was reading the specs on a 2014 LE at a dealer a couple hours away and it says driver heated and ventilated seat, but nothing about the front passenger.

It seems the roof rack cross bars are not available for the time being. Bummer. Hopefully this is something that can be added later on.

I thought the acceleration of the gx460 premium we drove was good, but I didn't really push it. I share your feelings about the disconnected feel of the gx460. A very dead or numb feeling is how I would describe it. The 4runner definitely felt more fun to drive.

Can we install the factory running boards ourselves or at a dealer? Two calls into two different dealers yielded mixed results from don't know with out a VIN number to yes, but they aren't the same as the ones that would come factory installed.

Takes 2 people about 30 minutes. There are 5 bolts already installed on each side behind the rocker panel. I mounted a set of Nfabs last week, and my son basically just had to brace 1 end of each up for me while I started a center bolt.

The dealer should be able to get the crossbars for you at or close to their cost.

I bought mine on Ebay. I used the bent up corner of an old license plate to pop the plastic covers. There is a good tutorial in here on how to install them.

I traded my 08 Urban Runner and sold my 96 SR5 (that we've had for 17 years) for a 2014 Limited Magnetic Gray 4x4.
I couldn't look back on either of my previous T4R's (still in my sig pic) when I left, but am so excited to move into the 5th gen forum. I love it and there will be more pictures to come when the weather gets better!
