2014 NAV question

Maybe I'm an idiot but I've checked the OM and can't figure this out. When I have the NAV screen up and hit the Dest button it brings up the screen that has Address, POI, Prev Dest, add book. All of these are "lit" up so you can select them except for the Address button which is the only one I want. What am I doing wrong?

Are you driving while trying to put in the address? Try coming to a complete stop or putting the vehicle in park and see if it allows you to put in the address. It's not something you can do while driving.

I agree. I tried doin several things while the wife was driving and it would not work...bluetooth phone, entering address, etc. when she put it in park it all worked.

I ran across the same problem the first day I got my runner. I know Toyota has to set up the nav this way for safety but man its a pain to have to come to a complete stop to type in an address.

Some programs let you bypass it by saying you are the passenger, for liability purposes I guess. It would be nice if they would allow this option in a future update.

You can't manually enter an address while driving, but you can give it a voice command to do this. I was just playing around with this last night. I couldn't remember the specific commands to use to enter an navigation address. Then I realized, when you hit the voice command button on the steering wheel, the screen does give you a number of command suggestions which is helpful.

I think it ended up being "SET DESTINATION" which was followed by the system asking me whether I wanted to use an Address, Previous Destination, etc. I tell it "ADDRESS", then it prompts me to tell it the complete address including City and State. System then asks if the address it understood is correct and will then set it as the Nav destination.

I think I may copy and laminate the list of voice commands from the manual and keep it as a small reference card in the truck.
