2014 Nav Update

Ok, so believe it or not, I did search but turned up surprisingly few leads.

Anyway, it seems like the only way to update the Nav maps is by purchasing a Micro SD card from the dealer. It looks like they're released annually.

So my questions are these:

1) Anyone know what I should expect to pay a dealer for one of these things?

and

2) Is there really no other source for them? I've found DVD versions on eBay, but it looks like our trucks are the Gen 7 system which is only updatable via Micro SD.

Thanks!

the price your going to pay for the update, you could go out and buy a decent garmin with lifetime map updates.

just sayin :)

If it's like Lexus is doing, you have to go to the dealer. They upload the new software via a USB via some Toyota computer. So the days of buying "bootleg" map DVDs are done.

If I go into the dealer they offer to update my map. They have never charged me for any updates. Is this not the case with everyone?

NAV updates

What is the latest NAV update version and how do you know which version is loaded? I'm picking up my new 4Runner this week and I want it to have the latest version when I take delivery.
Thanks.

That makes sense. I have a 100K warranty... and free oil changes for life. That's a lot of Nav updates....

extended warranty doesn't count if I remember correctly. only the 3/36 will cover it if at all, depends on the dealer.

What dealer are you going to? You aren't too far from me and my dealer isn't the best so I am always in the market for a better one.

Jones Junction in Bel Air, MD. Not horrible, but they always try to "sell me" something. Overall I can't complain though.

Do you know what they charge, or are you just speculating? It sounds like some people are having it covered while under warranty, so I'll ask about it at my upcoming 30K mile service. I was just trying to get a ballpark "reasonable" price before I heard the dealer's quote.

I've heard from $100 to $300 for a nav update depending on dealer. the high quotes are from the GST and SET regions though if I remember correctly.

plus I like the usability of the garmin while on the move unlike the crippled oem nav.
