2014 Rear Bumper Trim Removal

I searched and only found one person that had tried, but was unable to remove the rear silver bumper trim on a 2014. Does anyone know if it is possible? I know there are a couple people on here with 2014s that have already done an aftermarket rear bumper. Just curious if they recall from when they removed the stock bumper.

Are you wanting to remove it to paint or plastidip it black? The front came off somewhat easy. They rear I gave up on after a few clips were hard to get to. I just dipped it while still on the bumper. Just mask it off if you are just wanting to change the color on it. Mine turned out great.

No - I need to replace it. Someone backed into me last week. The bumper looks fine, but the trim piece is pretty mangled.

It can be done. Just got to get to all those clips. Some are easy,but the top ones are kind of hard to get to. Let us know if you get it done

I've never removed the rear bumper cover but I have to imagine it's not that hard.

I didn't try to get it off before I cut it but I would think it would be pretty difficult to get to the top row due to the bumper cross member. Some of the guys above said it wasn't too difficult though so don't take my word for it.

the bumper skin itself comes off pretty easily. I'd go that route and save yourself the hassle of trying to evolve the second wrist/elbow needed to get fingers on all those clips

It doesn't look right without the trim. There are quite a few slots and make it look like it is missing something. If you filled in the slots with say bondo or JB weld and sanded it and then repainted it probably would take care of it. Just depends on how much work/time you are willing to put into it.
Here is a pic of my front without the trim since a rock ripped it off. You can see the slots and the plastic peices that broke off the trim and are still attached with those white clips.


I can take a pic of the back bumper without it later if you want but I think you'll get the idea.

I color matched my bumper inserts, emblems and rear hatch handle. Here is my experience.

Removing the pieces isnt too bad. I did mine and it took me about 45 minutes to dissasemble and reassemble the surrounding areas.

Front has 13 clips and is as quite easy. Remove the top plastic cover and reach all the top clips. Then go underneath and remove the 2 10mm screws and reach your hand under the bumper cover to reach the side and bottom clips. Really simple in my honest opinion.

Rear was a lil bit of a MOFO but definately do-able (Just need patience). It was a tight space and i wasnt about to remove the rear bumper so i managed to get it done. The rear has 14 clips that are placed similarly to the front. Need good finger strength cuz your hand is inverted in some situations. The rear has 2 10mm screws and 2 pop rivets that provide a gap to squeeze your hand through. Then to get to the top ones you need to remove the side pieces connecting the mudflap to the bottom of the bumper (5 screws each side). Squeeze your hand under the bumper cover and work your way around to all the clips.

From what I heard, bumper off to do the clips are easier than trying to do them with the bumper on.

you're right, you did. I apologize. I think at the time i was stubborn and wanted the easy way out. Eventually ended up taking off the whole rear bumper and made it loads easier. Appreciate it to the fullest!

No problems! Glad it worked out for you, def not the "funnest" job to do on the truck.
