2014 Stupid Grey Pieces...Paint? Plasti-dip?

[MENTION=108915]F1scher[/MENTION] what color dip did you use? Looks good, I liked the black on my roof rails (Mag Grey truck) but was not sold on the look of the black for the front and rear trim panels. Might give that dark grey a shot.

dipyourcar.com has a ton of colors - seems like most people on T4R go w/ black. There are a million options, and w/ a black car, I didnt really like the full black out look. Went w/ the dark grey to break it up a bit.

What all did you mask off mattleegee? It looks pretty good!

I just used the blue painters tape, did all the work and slowly peeled it up with toothpick help, but still my lines close up aren't perfect but for the first time around and 1-$6 can of plastidip i like it.

Someone suggested to me that a thin 1/4 pinstriping tape will work better and to peel the tape BEFORE the plastidip dries up, maybe retape every coat i am unsure. They have kits on dipyourcar that include cleaners and other stuff, not sure if worth it but maybe better results

I color matched my bumper inserts, emblems and rear hatch handle. Here is my experience.

Removing the pieces isnt too bad. I did mine and it took me about 45 minutes to dissasemble and reassemble the surrounding areas.

Front has 13 clips and is as quite easy. Remove the top plastic cover and reach all the top clips. Then go underneath and remove the 2 10mm screws and reach your hand under the bumper cover to reach the side and bottom clips. Really simple in my honest opinion.

Rear was a lil bit of a MOFO but definately do-able (Just need patience). It was a tight space and i wasnt about to remove the rear bumper so i managed to get it done. The rear has 14 clips that are placed similarly to the front. Need good finger strength cuz your hand is inverted in some situations. The rear has 2 10mm screws and 2 pop rivets that provide a gap to squeeze your hand through. Then to get to the top ones you need to remove the side pieces connecting the mudflap to the bottom of the bumper (5 screws each side). Squeeze your hand under the bumper cover and work your way around to all the clips.

You definitely make it sound easier than it actually was. For the front I removed an extra piece due to me not being able to take those bottom Four screws out. Also gonna try and do the back, did u have any pictures or a thread/tutorial that you used for reference for the rear?

Heres mine. Plasti Dip is the best way to go IMO.

Plastidip is the cheapest route and allows you to remove it if you screw up.

However, keep in mind that the back probably isn't going to be a maintenance problem, but the front takes the brunt of rocks and bugs and often requires scrubbing to get rid of caked on bugs.

Plasti dip and peel coat are great because you can just peel it off. But it doesn't hold up well to abuse. Good news is that it doesn't take a lot to reapply, but removing it can be a pain (if you don't use some sort of releasing agent).

Paint is obviously less forgiving for mistakes, but will hold up better if you do proper prep and application.

I chose the expensive route and just bit the bullet and bought the two sections (front and back) for $329 and spent $10 on some extra clips (that I didn't end up needing).

I've seen guys use bedliner or bedcoat, but that gives a rough texture that likes to retain dirt in the pores.

I plastidipped those front and rear valences black. I just taped them off sprayed while still on the vehicle. It came out 90%+ perfect... I let it dry a bit too long in the back before trying to peel the tape. You want it sticky, but still wet, when you peel.

Really this was just a proof of concept. I can always go the more expensive route later, but honestly I'll probably leave it as is unless it starts too peel or I decide I need a winch bumper.

It looks so much better in black... what was Toyota thinking?

I had a local body shop paint it flat black. Cost me a couple hundred bucks and was well worth it in my opinion. Yes dipping is cheaper, but this looks great and no worries about flaking or repainting.
