2014 T4R Remote Start

tell your talented installation facility to
a: plug in the op500 and change option 1-01 to #2
b: plug the brain back into the computer and go into controller settings and change the option for unlock before, lock after, starting to ON

if they dont know what you are talking about tell them to call 888-820-3690 ask for tech support for wade, josh, woodie, jose, or cory.

i can also walk them thru on how to fix it.

if they never seen this before, they are full of crap. this is the typical OEM security needs to be turned off before remote starting.

Yes, i am that expert in remote starters. 52 installs in 12 days would make me one LOL. You should ask them about why your auto headlights dont turn off when you shut the car down via remote or times out after 15/25/45 run time. Yes, i do know how to fix that too. Oh yeah you cant because the OEM remotes dont work once the car is started.

I would add on drone mobile unit for unlimted range and functionality.

This worked great man, thanks.

I don't care for the OEM remote start at all. Mostly cause of the limited range.
I'm in the process of getting a Compustar Drone remote starter with EZGO proximity key-less entry for the '15. Hope it is as good as people claim.

Got it installed today. NOT impressed. Car alarm sometimes trips off for like 5 seconds when using the remote start. Thought it was because of the ezgo or factory fob locking the doors but it will do it sometimes when I use the remote starter to lock/unlock. The ezgo only unlocks the driver door??? So I walk up to the vehicle with suitcases etc and have to open drivers door only to press a button to unlock the rest of the vehicle, then walk to the back of the vehicle. I think I'd rather fumble around for a key. Speaking of which the installer said he couldn't program the factory fob to remote start.

that tells me that installer is not up to speed on compu-star or done mobile.

just had a 3100 drone unit installed on a 2016 Tacoma PTS and the installer saved me $25 by asking me if I wanted the drone fob or just use the factory fob to remote start.

needless to say, saved $25 and with the app we are good to go.

push the lock button 3 times and it remote starts or we can use the app to remote start.

also saves him about 1hr of install time not programming the 2nd input for the drone fob remote.

edit : btw this is our 4th drone mobile install from the same pro dealer/installer. even my 2014 drone I can remote start with my Toyota fob.

but I only use the app to remote start.

the product is not bad because the installer is a idiot.

Need to setup for double pulse unlock. It's also the due diligence of the owner of the vehicle check everything before you hands over the cash.

The installer is a certified dealer installer but that's all I can say. I called compustar and the next closest installer is 4 hours away. It worked a couple of times in his shop so I thought I was good to go. Got home and the alarm trips almost every time it remote starts.

Mine is the 3100... I think I'll talk to a compustar rep, ask him if what I want is possible, (which is only what others have done) and have them talk the installer through it.

Exactly this ^^

This is exactly how I had to program my Compustar. Works like a charm. A lot of newer vehicles have to be programmed this way.

Kind of surprised they gave it back to you like that, unless you needed the vehicle. Should be a quick and easy fix though.

i'll quote myself so you can fix your problem. I'll use the same terms, tell your talented installer.....

Certified dealer installer? LOL wtf is that?

You'll talk to a compustar rep? Do you mean calling home office in seattle?
a 3100 is refering to a drone mobile unit
a 7200 is remote starter only brain
a 7000 is a remote start and alarm system

then you pair up your remotes to the system

The OEM remote will always go off once you give it time to set. it takes 30 seconds for it to set after you press lock with the OEM key.

read, print, link my post to the "certified installer" lol
you can even have him PM me here or find me on the compustar tech feed on facebook or post up a question on that group and I'll re certify him/her lol

When I go to compustar website and enter my zip, it list dealer/installers in my area. This is what I would consider a "certified" installer, especially if the manufacturer recommends them, no? When I call the 800# at compustar, I believe I'm talking to a representative of that company, no? I never called anyone talented, in fact I'm questioning his competence. If I was in Atlanta, I'd be glad to have you install. I don't claim to know anything about these starters either, that is why I went through compustar recommended dealer/installer. Mistake? Maybe I should ask my neighbor to do it? Yea I wish someone would teach him correctly cause I just don't have the time to bring it back to his shop.

Lol, OK that's what you did.

Anyone that buys their product will be listed on the website. It's a 888 number but I'm sure that's what you meant. Unless you called someone else.

Mistake, maybe. Depends on your neighbor's skill level, heck I'm someone's neighbor and I'm a awesome installer lol.

You don't have to go back to him if you don't want to. I can send you a op500 to borrow with a deposit and toy pay freight both ways. :)

Or you can tell him exactly what settings to turn on. I'm curious what the install looks like if he ching even put the settings right.

Can you clarify that simply a 3100 Drone "add-on module" can be added to a 2015 Limited with PTS and you will get the local use of the OEM keyfob to start the vehicle with the 3 lock presses? No Additional hardware required? What about takeover? Can you unlock with the keyfob and drive off without engine shutdown?
I will have my guy rip out the Avital starter, EVO-ALL and Directed Smart Start module and go with the Compustar set up if that is the case.

yes he did only the 3100 unit. didn't do the take over as it wasn't an issue for me.

gshadow says with a different module you can do takeover.

I don't use the fob for remote start, kinda defeats the purpose of having drone mobile and paying for the service.

I use my phone exclusively to remote start since I don't have to worry about distance.

edit : just had a 3100 unit installed on the 2016 Tacoma with PTS. 3 button lock remote start works, but the distance sucks with the oem fob. the warden loves using the app since she had issues at work trying to remote start with our old compustar alarm/remote start, she had a prime 9000 installed that had a 1 mile range, but it barely reached 500ft due to the building type. the material the signal goes thru makes a big different on effective range.

also the 3100 unit is a stand alone unit. the modules are the different bypass modules to get around the security system of the vehicle so the remote start unit can actually start the vehicle.

evo-all
fortin

are some of the more popular bypass modules.

OK, thanks. I guess my needs/wants are a bit more complicated than yours.
I can just see myself and the old lady standing out side my truck in the single digits or the driving rain and I go to hit the keyfob to open the doors and no dice. By the time I get my gloves off, get into my pocket, fire up the app and wait for the command to unlock I can imagine a good solid minute will go by.
I am going to want the keyfob access, full takeover and app control.
I am quote sure the EVO-ALL will not provide all that.

ok I get you want a fob. but it still comes down to a fob, either the one that came with the vehicle or one with the drone unit.

so you want to carry 2 fobs? the Toyota and drone fob?

you can but you will pay extra for the fob on the drone unit since it will take up a 2nd input on the drone unit which requires programming and the actual fob.

either you have to carry both fobs drone and Toyota or just the Toyota fob.

you cant get around needing the Toyota fob since you cant actually run the vehicle without it.

now if you have a key ignition, then you really only need the key and drone fob.

direct quote from compustar

A 'takeover procedure' is in reference to how you can get the vehicle into drive following a remote start. When remote starting with a standard key vehicle it is required to place the vehicle key in the ignition before placing the vehicle into gear. If the key is not seen in the ignition the vehicle will automatically shut off when the foot brake is pressed.
This safety feature does not exist with Push-To-Start (PTS) vehicles due to the lack of the ignition cylinder. Because of this many PTS vehicles will actually shut off the engine as soon as the door is opened. However, some PTS vehicles allow a take over procedure to exist following a remote start. The take over procedure will allow you to remote start the vehicle, enter, and drive away without the vehicle's engine shutting off.
A standard sequence to initiate the take over procedure is as follows:

  • Remote start the vehicle.
  • Unlock/disarm the vehicle.
  • Enter the vehicle and press the foot brake. (Following the disarm you have (45) forty five seconds to do this)
NOTE: If the foot brake is not pressed within 45 seconds the procedure will be cancelled and the vehicle will shut off once the door is opened.
Other procedures may exist depending upon the vehicle and intallation. If you would like confirmation of this process for your vehicle it is recommended to contact the installer.
This procedure is not available on all PTS vehicles. Some vehicles may require extra installation by the dealer in order for this process to exist. Many Toyota PTS vehicles do not allows this procedure to work.
there is also this old thread and the very last post talks about a full takeover using a directed, but man they had to do from what I can see a jury rig setup to get it to work on a newer 4runner.

Nope, good point. I just want to use the factory fob, I don't want a starter fob.
Let me add that to my wish list:
-Start with an app
-Be able to unlock the car with the OEM keyfob after it was started without a second keyfob.
-Have full key takeover so engine will not shut down
-Have local remote starting ability with the OEM keyfob without a second keyfob

the drone 3100 unit will do all of that except full takeover.

that is what I am doing on my 14 LE and the 16 Tacoma Sport.

another thing that is never mentioned in any brochures,

compustar/drone mobile use 4G transmitters within the remote start units and transmit on the Verizon network.

from what I remember, other brands still use 3G transmitters on unknown networks.

someone will have to verify that as that was old info from last time I checked last year.

I've been following this thread for a couple of weeks, since I will be getting a 2016 Trail Premium in mid-November. Hopefully my question here is "jacking" the thread.

Since my 4Runner will have a key (not PTS), it would appear I may be able to use a less elaborate Remote Start system. What would you all recommend, given the following?
- remote start from a reasonable distance (using smart phone is a bonus)
- would love to only have the factory fob to deal with.
- I don't want to have to restart the engine upon entry.

Thanks in advance,

Phil
