I remember seeing that YouTube video somewhere else of the Malibu and Bel Air crashing. Great display of modern technology and engineering winning agains sheer bulk. Totally agree with the sentiments that new cars are better in every way than classics except for the feelings of nostalgia. But holy hell, some of the comments on YouTube under that video are insane. Even though the steering column nearly punctures the dummy's head and the dashboard and roof completely collapse into the passenger compartment, people are saying it didnt have an engine in it and it wasn't a fair test, the frame was old and rusted and the test was unfair, etc. Give me a break.

So true ! , most people that love classics do not have to drive them, own them,work on them, etc..
Rich people , collectors and car show spectators all love the classics. Go to a car show all the people come to look at the classics and say how cool and great they are then get in a brand new fully loaded whatever turn on the air set the navigation and go home.

My experience with a 2013 Subaru

SUMMARY

2013 Subaru Outback
14000 miles
Connecting rod failure
Subaru blamed it on me.
Subaru agreed to pay 75% of parts, all labor
I had to pay 25% of parts cost
Time vehicle was in shop - 26 days

Sounds like Toyota is doing a reasonable job handling the situation. It is always inconvenient and disheartening to have these situations arise. Customer service from the Subaru dealer was non existent. The only time they contacted me without Subaru of America involvement, was when the vehicle repairs were completed. No updates. No curtesy calls. Nothing. Go figure.

I'm not sure if this is worth posting. Can he make sure this repair does not make it to Carfax? Sell it or trade it some day, a Carfax report could be pulled, and it will be reported. Trade to a Toyota dealer on another, probably OK, except selling outright, or trade for another brand, you may have a problem showing a trans fix at low miles.

It shouldn't affect anything... Now if it was wrecked, structural damage and repaired, maybe.

In regards to VW, I sold my '07 GTI when I bought the 4Runner. All I can say is that the VW was rock solid - as in, not a single failure. I only had to bring it in for maintenance (during these I also would handle any "recall" notices that may have shown up, a handful over the course of 2007-2014). When I took it in for a pre-sale inspection the mechanic noted that he had never seen an engine that showed absolutely no leaks / oil sweating / seeping... and no, I did not wash the engine beforehand.

I am hopeful that the 4Runner will be as reliable and problem free. Really enjoying it thus far!

at 9,000 miles we finally took back our 2014 4Runner. The symptoms are identical to the high rev'ing / no power. I looked today and found your post. The dealer has had my 4 Runner 4 days now and will only tell me that "they had a code on the transmission and sent an email to Toyota". This is my 3rd new 4 Runner I have purchased. They have been reliable.

Right now the dealer may be contributing to my frustration more then Toyota.

As a side note....the 2014 Jeep Wrangler I bought at the same time as the runner and which has 3,000 more miles hasn't had any issues. Who would have thought???
