2014 Trail edition kdss suspension upgrade

Folks, I hope everyone is doing well.

After researching, reading and watching what I've found on the topic. I finally decided to pull the "trigger" on several upgrades for my 4Runner.

Based on my driving since my purchase ( original owner) I've taken to understanding, that like most, my desires to off roads are much lofty that reality. I've taken her only 8 times , this weekend being the most serious ( north ga trail).

Since my purchase the number one complaint from passengers, have been the "bumpiness ", "nose dive" and for me the stock look.

Fast forward and decided to start with the suspension. 6112F/5160R and some BFG AT 285's. Looking for just 2" lift and keeping the factory "Rake".

I went to 4wheel parts in Norcross and the pretty much guided me to ARB with OME. Stating that the 6112 comes only in a kit form with springs and the 5160( rear) would be to short ( factory) and they recommended 3" springs in the rear.

Moreover , stating that the ARB with ONE were designed to work together for the 2014 4Runner.

Additionally, quoting that the majority of their installs has that configuration. I have no reason to not believe them, as my knowledge is below par on this topic.

The quote with tires ( they did not have the wheels/rims I wanted) , labor, balanced , alignment and tax came to $3k.

All my research was Icon Stage 4 but, decided that's not really what I need. So mostly 6112/5160.

Can this group provide some feed back on ARB with the OME ( durability, ride feel, performance, etc.)?

And price

Attached is a pic ( without the tires) of the quote

Thank you a in advance.

They should be giving you a break on labor if your buying the lift from them. I would buy the kit from online and install it yourself, its easy regardless of what a vocal minority think.

Need a bit more info. Typically an OME system is around $900. If install and alignment is $500, it should be around $1400 plus tires. If you add UCA's - plan on another $500ish. Install of UCA's as part of a suspension is basically no additional time. Maybe 10 extra minutes or something like that.

Do yourself a favor and find someone in your area willing to help you with the install. It will teach you about your rig, save you money, and (most importantly) keep 4WP from touching your rig.

Their suggestion of OME is not bad. Very reliable, tried and true setup. Basically install it and forget about it since they require zero maintenance. Ask J-BlickPhoto .

The OME part numbers they provided would only be recommended if you plan to add bumpers/skids/sliders. 884 fronts and 889 rear coils are what you would want with a stock vehicle with no added weight.

OME’s will have a stiffer spring than your stock coils, so if you are sensitive to a firmer ride, you may not like them. It will in no way be harsh unless you go with a heavy coil without added weight.

Search around here. Tons of info.

$3k for a OME nitro-charger lift with alignment seems very high, am I missing something big?

You can get a assembled kit from toytech.com for $1k.

I think that price included installation, tires (who knows how much), and taxes. If the tires are $1000, it's not too far off. If the tires are $600, it's awfully high to me.

Thank you. The tires (4) are $997.24 . No uca's. Which I'm concerned. They mentioned that it's not needed... but, I have found conflicting information on this.

Again thank you.

No worries. As far as UCA’s, you will not be able to get within factory alignment specs with a full OME setup without aftermarket UCA’s. With that said, several have gone without UCA’s. It is not a tire wear issue, but it is a drivability issue. You will notice some wandering on the highway with your caster out of spec. With UCA’s, it is an easy add on if you want to add them later though.

Nerves- I have a 2016 Trail Edition with KDSS. I just bought and installed a 3" front with 2" rear lift with diff drop kit for $830 + shipping ($100'ish) from Dobinsons. Dobinsons has a lift kit that accounts for the KDSS passenger side lean. That with your $997.24 is $1827.24. That saves you almost $1200 for UCAs and install. If you're interested contact Mike at Dobinsons.

My Package;

C59-314 x 1
GS59-574 x 2
DD59-527K x 1
C59-725 with KDSS x 1
GS59-701 x 2

Just throwing that out there as an alternate recommendation....

Considering that you have KDSS, you may want to take it somewhere that has a good amount of experience dealing with lifts and KDSS vehicles. Only paying an hour labor to install is awesome, but if they accidentally do something to the KDSS system during the install you will be SOL. It's not a complicated system, but it is very expensive to repair. If you think 4WP is gonna pay up when Toyota hands them a 3k repair bill, then you got another thing coming.
Just some food for thought. If they have guys with actual experience on KDSS then disregard all of this.

Any recommendations in the Atlanta area?

Maybe dot_tom , FactoryRide , or Hawkdog21 would know???

I would think 4WP would be familiar with KDSS 4Runners by now. If you paid MSRP for the parts, that makes sense for the discounted labor rate. They are making money off the parts whether you install there or not.

4WP is not a shade tree mechanic. I'd say you are in good hands.

Nerves- My bro-in-law lives in Marietta. He recommends Monster customs. They did the lift on his 4th Gen. I'm not sure if they know about KDSS though.

KDSS is a pretty simple system to work on, if you're knowledgeable of how it works. As far as shops go to recommend, I know for sure one I wouldn't recommend. Greer Automotive Services, he's a shop in Woodstock, and you'll get a bunch a ATL 4runners to recommend him. That's only because they haven't been dicked over by him yet. They're a bunch of crooks and will take advantage of you first chance they get, and I can fill you in further via PM if needed.
toyo (Steven is the only guy outside of myself that I let work on my truck). He's got a shop in Cumming, and I'm sure wouldn't mind doing the install for you.
