2014 trail wind noise

I haven't driven a 2014, and mine won't be here for about 7 more weeks, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the new vortex generators on the mirrors that is supposed to improve stability at high speeds. They are also on the tail lights. Just a thought.

I have driven three 2014 SR5's, and bought a Premium last night. The noise -- a high-pitched whistling coming from around the mirrors -- was present on all three. It's most noticeable at around 40 mph. I will have the dealer make a note of it when I take it in for the first servicing. Hopefully enough of us will complain about it to make it a TSB.
As much as I liked my 3rd gen, the one thing that bothered the snot out of me was the noise I got across the mirrors at highway speeds. It sounded like someone blowing across a Coke bottle, only amplified. I did notice the vortex generators on the 14 T4R, and the trim pieces that contain looked like they could be swapped out for the 10-13 mirror trim pieces. If it can be confirmed that the generators are the source of the high pitched noise, it might be an easy fix.
I folded in the mirrors and no more whistling sound. It's definitely the mirrors.
No mirror blinkers/turn signals. Checked my window sticker and it isn't listed on there either. Guess they switched the window stickers to reflect the actual blinker-less side mirrors on the Trail edition.

It's even more noticeable with the windows down. It's coming from the area of vortex generator on the trim where the mirror attaches to the door. If you place your left hand over the window track in that area, it goes away.
I have turn signals in my mirrors (SR5 Premium). It doesn't appear to be the mirrors themselves.
Did you try folding in your mirrors? I could swear the noise went away when I folded them in.

Same issue on my 2014 limited. Put some duct tape on the seam of the painted cap on the inside edge of the mirror. (Closest to the body.) noise was gone. For now have invisible 3m tape as it looks better..and an appointment to get this fixed at the dealer. Was told that toyota may just recommend the fix I did. Hope they take the cap off and seal it with silicone or a rubber seal. 100% this is the noise maker. Even take painters tape or scotch tape to try this fix out. I promise the noise will be gone.
To be clear.. Seal the seam between the painted cap and the rest of the side view mirror housing on the vertical side. Nearest to the vortex generator. The vortex tab is not to blame.. It is the seal between the cap and the housing.

Wait a few weeks, you'll have a few squeaks and rattles that will drown it out.

Thank you!! Problem solved. I used black electrical tape, since my truck is black.
I'll let the dealer try a more permanent fix when I take it in for my first servicing.

I'm happy to see that our board is so open to different kinds of tape. I think the fix was easy for me because my one mirror screamed at 18 mph. At highway speeds it was very noticeable even with the stereo on reasonably loud. Once I fixed the drivers side it took me another day to notice a smaller sound from the passenger side. Now both have the quick fix treatment... But the first was terrible! The dealership was closed by the time I got insurance and everything otherwise I never would have accepted that truck. (One of the hazards of buying out of your city for a good deal.) I digress.. But this seems common enough that toyota should have a bulletin on it very soon. All those with the smaller noise.. Take it in to let your dealership know about the problem. The faster we address this the faster toyota will find a permanent fix. And about the other comment... My last runner was a 13 sr5 upgrade. Not a squeak or rattle after 11 months and 25,000kms of Canadian driving. Body on frame Japanese built trucks actually built in japan rule! (Look for j as the first letter of the vin.) For the benefit of the odd Tacoma surfer here.
