2015 4Runner Trail front license plate mount options

I got a '15 SR5 premium a few weeks ago, and ordered the OEM front plate bracket from TRD Shop. It didn't come with any hardware, so I checked with my local dealer to see how much they'd charge me to put it on, and said it would be $19. So, I figured I'd let the "pros" handle it.

I took it today, and they told me that they couldn't install it without the hardware (they said that the hardware they have for the newer models, the screws aren't long enough).

Any suggestions? I've seen folks mention using self-tapping screws, but am not sure exactly what to go with.

Reposition front plate

I installed a bull bar. My plate was attached using the dealer plastic mounting bracket on the front bumper (2017 SR5). The plate was attached using the two top holes, and the bottom part of the plate was hidden behind the bull bar. I drilled out two holes on the bottom front of the plastic mounting bracket, and attached the plate using the bottom holes. This raised the plate by 2 inches making it fully visible. Some states only require the front plate if there is a place to mount it.

My bumper was never drilled, so I have no place to mount.

4 Runner Plate Option

I used 4 stainless bolts with poly washers on each side of the grill with stainless poly nuts & stainless washers on the inside. No drilling at all. Just patience and tape to keep the washers in place.

front license plate keeps bending in carwashes

Sorry to dredge up this old post. Im not finding a way to search by age of posts even by putting a year in the search field. I am seeing tons of posts on this and other forums about how 4R and Rav4 and other toyos are getting front license plates bent up. For me it happens in any carwash, don't care whose it is or what mechanics the wash uses. Short of handwash (no I really don't have time) or the water only (no they don't get it clean)...I can't really eliminate the cause of the issue.

The issue is any wash, including the Toyo dealer's wash, mangles my front plate becuase the plate-backer on the bumper only comes down half-way the depth of the plate. So brushes get in there and get stuck and mangle the plate trying to get free. The dealer gave me a plastic frame which the wash promptly broke in half. My license plate has been bent and fixed so many times it is about to break, and that's going to be a 30$ or better replacement from my lovely state.

I've seen so many posts about getting a good frame...but not specific to solving the problem with car washes grabbing the plate and spindling it.

Is there something I could put on the Toyota front bumper that I could then adhere my plate to, that wouldn't destroy the plate? and more specifically, that wouldn't destroy the bumper? My plate is not cheap to replace but if the bumper got destroyed that would really be worse.

Prior to my 2015 4R I had a 2001 which I held for 15 years. I 2016 I bought a 2015 model. I use the same carwashes I always have and my plate is the same plate that was on the 01 before trading up. So the only difference is the difference in the bumper/plate location on this new 4R.

Any hope?

Front Plate options

I have mine mounted to the air deflector of my roof rack. No troubles from the local authorities and no permanent damage to the front of the vehicle.

I simply took some aluminum angle stock and made a bracket to hang the plate below the bumper. Am currently looking for some spring loaded piano hinge so that when I brush against bushes or whatever the plate will fold back rather than bend.

I went with this setup with my undercover winch mount. I like where the plate sits with the original mount plus I have a light bar behind the grill so moving it up wasn't an option.

What winch mount did you use? I’m considering the Rago model.

Went with the Undercover HWMS (hidden winch mount specialist). Company was great to work with but I will warn you that they have a really tight tolerance with the bumper cover and mine is pressed hard against it. Overall very happy with it though. Solid mount and liked being able to keep the stock appearance.

You ever figure this out? I got a limited and my plate is totally mangled.
