2015 Liftgate Issue

The support struts/shocks on my liftgate just gave out. I mean they are dead, dead, dead. Worked great when we got home on Saturday night, dead on Sunday morning. No power whatsoever. The truck is only 8 months old! Headed to the dealer this week for warranty repair.

Curious - has anyone else had this issue so soon? I saw a few posts for older models, 4th or 3rd gen model - it just seems ridiculous for these to give out so soon. There's no extra weight on there - bone stock.

yes it has happened... usually to those running a GOBI ladder though. I have been running a ladder on OEM struts without fail for about 6 months, but they are starting to creak

The likely culprit, defective/faulty strut. That sucks though, but I guess when they're manufacturing thousands of these struts, hopefully only a small percentage go bad so quickly.

I added a bajarack ladder, and my struts failed after a couple months (though I expected that), so the day they failed, I installed some aftermarket ones that provided an extra 40-50 lbs of lift. They work just fine, though I found in the extreme cold (-5 F to 15 F) they are weaker. After that 3-day cold spell, the struts worked fine again. Something to do with fluid dynamics and flux capacitors....

Same thing happened to me. 2015 SR5, stock tailgate.
Struts worked one day, completely dead the next.
Took it into the dealer and they replaced the struts in a couple of hours under warranty.
No questions asked.

Good to hear. I was hoping so. I mean at 8 months old and 10K miles, it SHOULD be under warranty.

Thanks for all the responses folks. Seems like a common occurrence. I'll post tomorrow after a trip to the dealer.

FIXED> The dealer took care of this immediately. My service tech said it's a fairly common thing. I guess they have to save money somewhere - I just wish it was on advertising instead of quality. No harm no foul though.

I had this issue as well, dealer replaced. This happens so often that the parts were backordered for two weeks.
