2015 Limited Headlights & Fog Lights

Hello folks. I imagine that someone has covered this, but I can't find it. I'll be purchasing a 2015 Limited in the next 90 days, just sold my 1997 LX450 . From the many posts that I've read, it appears that the headlights aren't very impressive. I was wanting to upgrade the high and low beams as well as the fogs. Does anyone have an inexpensive way to do this? My only concern is increased wattage/heat and possibly damaging the housing and/or harness. I thought I had seen a thread where one can purchase an adapter from innovative lights, or something like that. Thank you in advance for your recommendations and guidance. Cheers!

I just went through this myself. I decided to go full LEDs. I bought all at vleds.com they are a excellent quality products. Went for the 6k look. Headlights are the LMZ H11 kit. a little expensive but so nice. The High beam VX3 9005 and the Fog VX3 H16. I started a thread like a month ago, just search for VLEDs LEDs. I added pics lows but did not take any pics yet to the highs and fogs but let me tell you it looks and works very good. When I bought my limited I could not believe how bad the light where. Regarding the temp, these LEDs come with a built in fan which make them big which leads to the kinda-negative part, you will have to shave off a little bit of the housing in order for them to fit and will not be able to put the dust cap back. I have not seen issues at all.

AH7, I'll look at your build. However, I want to keep it as inexpensive and as stock as possible. If better halogen bulbs work, then that's the route I'll take. I may add an LED light bar down the road if it can be done in a very stealthy way, my preference is always understated. Thanks again. Cheers!

I get you my friend, it can get expensive. Def. try to test drive it when its a little darker to see the lights and get a better idea. Like I said before, for me they are terrible.

I'm quite happy (for the time being) with the Osram NBU's as a halogen upgrade over stock.

With the brighter bulbs, the unevenness in the halogen projector beam pattern is now more apparent, and I'm convinced that I would not be happy with LED/HID in the stock housings. Note, plenty of people on this forum are quite happy with currently available options, and I don't mean to take away from that.

My plan is to DIY a retrofit within the next year.

I just did the Xenon Depot HID kit for the low beams with the Phillips bulb grade and the LED upgrade for the DRL and Highbeams. Overall, very happy with the look/ performance. Exceptionally better than stock. My only complaint is a flickering that I seem to have in the DRL mode. Only noticeable if I look at the lights in a darker setting. On the rod, they seem to be fine. Steve at Xenondepot was very helpful in this arena.

Just go to Xenondepot look up the year of vehicle and make they have all the options clearly available. All proper wires and hardware to install is included. Use XD LED bulbs for the fog lights and DRL/Highbeams for quarter of the wattage as your OEM bulbs but 2x brightness and HID for your low beams 35 watts vs 55 watts OEM. Everything is easy to install. Price for upgrading your lights is gonna cost you that is just plain facts but increase lumens and better color is worth the cost. Best upgrade I do for all my cars and motorcycles.

Thanks Griz, I noticed you left the stock fogs. Were you concerned about the increased wattage and possible damage from the additional heat generated by the new bulbs?

Yeah, 55W vs. 19W is more of a gap than I'd like to try.

The unfortunate thing with aftermarket H16 halogen offerings is that they're either yellow (PIAA, Nokya) or slightly blue (Nokya again). Even the Philips LED bulbs (which have a "safe" wattage) are too blue for my liking.

H11 in fog light

After Bambi decided to suicide by jumping in front of my T4R, I had a fog light that was intact except for the broken mounting points. I decided this would make a good no-risk test for H11s in place of the H16s.

I trimmed the tab on an H11 and if fit just fine in the fog light. It was nice and bright and all looked good for about 5 minutes, so I left it to run for a while. After about 10 minutes, it was plain that there was a significant heat problem; the clear lens had softened and started to form many small bubbles in the center, and the plastic reflector had also softened and deformed to a lesser extent.

I know that there was no cooling air flow during my test but I don't believe it would have made much of a difference.

Good test....
Probably not the results most that have done or want to do, but nonetheless, still a good test.
H11's are clearly not designed for these reflectors that have a reduced output bulb.

Thanks for sharing that test. I very well might have tried them and it would have cost me a pretty penny to replace everything. I suppose I can go the LED route, I'm just anal about the fogs and lights not matching, color wise. Thanks again.
