2016 4runner Changes

They're only going to build and ship 350 T4Rs to the entire US market per month. They're focusing production on more popular models like the Highlander and Sienna.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Highlander and Sienna are built in the US. 4Runner is built in Japan. So reducing the build for the 4Runner has no impact on the number of Highlanders and Siennas that they can build.

Now it won't surprise me if Toyota decides to build fewer 4Runners. But I don't think it has anything to do with production numbers for Highlanders and Siennas.

Thanks for all the feedback and sales numbers. Given the current sales of 4Runners it doesn't make sense for them to cut production down to 1/20th of this years sales.

The LA area Toyota sales meeting this dealer attended was probably produced to give the dealers just enough info to place their first fleet orders of 2016 models on June 1st. Toyota marketing may not be revealing everything to them before they make a big public announcement. Given how little the average dealership sales person knows about the 4Runner, it's not surprising that Toyota doesn't need to reveal too much to get them to order. And the dealer may not be telling me everything he knows.

I may have read an article that fudged the numbers, or I remembered it wrong. I said above that Jeep Wrangler sales were 10 times the sales of 4Runners.

Jeep Wrangler sales for 2014 were about 2.3 times what the 4Runner sales figures were. Toyota sold 76,906 4Runners in 2014. Jeep sold 175,338, or 2.28 times the number of 4Runners.

Who knows why? While the Wrangler has good ground clearance, only the Rubicon exceeds the off-road ability of a T4R Trail Edition. And most of the Wranglers I see here in LA are not Rubicons. I think it's a style and fun-car effect that makes people buy them.

As I mentioned, this source is good for colors and trim levels. The standard equipment and prices aren't updated (2015 prices used as a placeholder) .

• No change to models: SR5, SR5 Premium, Trail, Trail Premium, Limited, TRD Pro
• Colors for the TRD Pro (matches earlier posts): Super White, Magnetic Gray, Quicksand
• Colors for the SR5, Trail, and Limited appear to be the same as 2015, except for the black (Midnight Black Metallic instead of Attitude Black); note that Toyota's 2015 color chart doesn't have a Midnight Black Metallic, so it could be an error (or it could be a new color)
• Interior colors appear to be the same as 2015

I don't put much stock in what dealers tell you. Walk in, ask to order a new one, usually they will tell you, we will do a search, find one, do a trade with another dealer. OK, just walk out. Of course, the guy will get off his ass, run out to rescue the deal. Find a dealer that will do what you want
You can take a "C" delivery. You order what you can, and what they will do on the assembly line, and what is added at the US port. I think the sliding deck is added here. I am on my 3rd 4Runner. The 2015, I had to wait about 6 weeks. When it was delivered, the dealers name, info, etc., was on the sticker. Straight from JAX, to the dealer. It had 1.7 miles on it when I took delivery.
Came exactly like ordered. I shopped, took the best price, including TruCar, to the dealer I wanted to buy from, they met all my requirements. Took charcoal this time, really cleans the front end up, showing only dark gray and black.
Wish they would offer the tow pkg with oil and trans cooler again. It was on my 2008 - SR5. Would like to have that one back.
Off subject here, have you seen the new Chevy Colorado? Looks like it was made on the Tacoma line. I think that GM and Toyota had a deal years ago at the Nummi plant in CA. Where they making Tacomas there?

The last dealer I talked to started telling me all the things a 4runner has while opening up and showing me a highlander... haha of course I went along with it and asked all sorts of questions about the truck.

Now I am curious on what this maybe new Midnight Black Metallic color is for the 4runner compared to the Attitude Black? I am looking into getting a black 4runner and now want to find more info on this!

My dealer just emailed me with this info below so you guys know! Looks like minor upgrades and changes....color...etc..

2016 4Runner news came out and nothing changed to the one you want.

Changes are:

-They got rid of the base model so now the Upgrade package is the base.
-They got rid of the sliding cargo tray in the Trail
-You cannot get black interior in the Barcelona Red Limited. It is now a beige interior.
-You can now get Nautical blue Limited with beige interior.

No important changes that I can see.

The 2015 TEP I got didn't have the tray in it....

I think I saw a 2016 on the lot last night. I didnt think about it. Exterior color was red. It was a SR5 premium and had a darker brown 2 tone interior. I wasnt thinking about it at the time, but remember it did not have the anniversary discount on the invoice. I have never seen interior color before. They had another sr5 w/the sand beige color next to it.

Hoping for more info that comes out soon from Toyota so we all know exactly whats going on.....wonder what is taking so long since come Sept the 2016's will be here and on lots! Also so want to find some spy shots on the new 6th gen coming next year hopefully.

Toyota seems to play their cards very close to the vest. But the lack of news suggests to me that there will be little change.

Maybe 2017 will bring more significant changes.

Looks like the standard "translated rumor drivel" that's on dozens of websites. Like you, I've been hunting for info on the '17s (going to buy either a 5th or 6th gen, depending on specs)...Toyota hasn't released one iota of info that I can find.

At some point I may just lose patience, sell my Durango and buy a '15 Limited off the lot (would prefer a TE, but wifey needs the auto A/C, auto 4wd, memory seat)...then swap to 17s, put a mild lift on when she's not looking, build a rear box/platform...you know, fully give in to the insanity. :thumb3:

In that case, I hope Toyota doesn't go and make the '17s a much better vehicle because I'd be kicking myself. I'd love to see better economy, more power and a better balance of luxury and offroad options.

There isn't any information in that article, just fluff. It is click-bait.

No one outside of Toyota and its suppliers knows when the 6th gen will be released and what it will look like. My guess is that it will have the Taco drivetrain and the Limited model will have driver aides like blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, etc

It could go the other way also. When the 5th gen came out it lost a lot of features the 4th gen had. Torsen diff on all models, no more standard auto temp, no V8 option etc.

I finally got around to watching the Nascar race I recorded at Sonoma last Sunday. The race was sponsored by Toyota. While cleaning up after a big wreck there was a white Limited 4runner on the track. I paused the screen and looked closely at the 4runner. It looked like the large wide chrome strip on the front bumper was painted white to match the rest of the 4runner. The smaller top bar on the grill was still chrome. My wife thought the big part was painted white also. Will be curious to see if this is something new or not. Other than that the 4runner looked the same.

Now I am curious on what this maybe new Midnight Black Metallic color is for the 4runner compared to the Attitude Black? I am looking into getting a black 4runner and now want to find more info on this!

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a "black" one that'll be here within a week or so and it says Attitude Black but thr black ones on the dealer lot are Midnight Black Metallic and look dark blue in thr sunlight. Hope it's truly black and not metallic.
