2016 4runner Changes

Was going to work today and saw a Limited with those "LED" DRLs. It was placed low on the bumper way below the fog lights. Granted, I only saw this rig for about 3 seconds (oncoming) and looked pretty good (I still havent warmed up to them). Did the factory quietly added them this year or was it aftermarket?

Sorry, i have nothing to add to this discussion. I'm at the dentist waiting for my wife and was bored, LOL

Must have been aftermarket. The DRLs on the Limited are just like the other models as far as I know.

So the new 4Runner will not have the smaller displacement 6cylinder? We just purchased a 2015 and were also looking at buying a Tacoma and the dealership said the 2016 Tacoma's will have like 3.6L instead on the current 4.0L?

Same 4.0 engine as before!

If they wanted to fit it, they might need to change the gearbox, diff, due to different torque curve (max torque at a higher rpm). On the Taco they don't say there is so much difference in MPG, so...

Not yet.

The 5th generation 4Runner debuted in 2010, so we are due for a 6th generation. Perhaps that will come next year, along with an updated drivetrain. I would not be surprised to see the 3.5l + 6 speed transmission in the 2017 4Runner, but Toyota plays their cards close to the vest.

V8

I stopped at the Toyota dealership in Ocala, FL last week and was told that they are going to offer the V8 next year. It will be the 4.6. The guy seemed pretty confident with what he was telling me. This is what many of us have been waiting for. If it's true, I'm getting one. Has anyone else heard this news?

I call BS.

I'm sure he is confident in his assumption, but the odds of that are little to none. Smaller displacement and more efficient engines are going to be the way of the future, so I doubt we will see a V8 in anything other than a Land Cruiser or Sequoia.

I'd bet a sizable amount of cash that the Tacoma drivetrain will make its way into the 2017 4Runner. At most we may get a tune that pumps power to a healthy 300+hp.

He got that news from the same place that marketing projections come from. A proctologist can show you the location using an endoscope.

Interior differ ces

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but there is a cosmetic difference between the interiors of 2015 vs 2016. The 2916 seems to be all black, I.e no silver plastic around the MM center, door jams, center island, etc. I like it.

I ordered a 2016 TEP with KDSS back on 7/31/15 and I have been following up on it every 2 weeks for a confirmed delivery date.

So today, the dealer says he talked to Toyota and he said, and I quote, " I just got off the phone with Toyota and they have informed me that they rejected our request to build a 4Runner with KDSS. From what I gather they are no longer offering that feature. ".

I live in TX and our region's dealers don't get KDSS equipped trucks so hence the reason for the order.

The Toyota website still allows you to build one with KDSS (if you put in an a zip code where KDSS is an option).

Anyone heard about KDSS not being offered on 2016 trucks for any reason? I am a little pissed here.

He is lying to you. Gulf States distributors may not be bringing any in to the area, but Toyota is still offering the feature.

Call a big dealer outside your region. Negotiate a price over the phone then go pick it up. I ordered mine from a dealer 7 hours away and saved a lot of money going to a large volume dealer. They even picked me up at the airport.

2015 vs 2016

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 4Runner and debating on getting the 2015 now or waiting on the 2016. It's my understanding there are no differences between the two but it would be great to have a confirmation from someone that has actually taken delivery of the 2016.
