2016 4Runner Oil Change

being a meteorologist would have been more helpful than being a metrologist, at least if [MENTION=45064]Tex-Tac[/MENTION] was a meteorologist he would be able to know how hot or cold he would be while waiting for a tow truck on the side of the road
 
There's a reason you shouldn't be reading these types of threads while in the front of a training room full of 30 people. They might look at you funny when you giggle out loud.

Except they have a lot of issues with their turbos failing and some other lubrication issues. Not to mention the way you tell oil level in a modern BMW is by an oil level sensor... which never went bad or had issues historically (italicized to denote sarcasm). I had one once that was pretty damn low despite the level sensor saying how happily nominal it was.

For the sake of information, supplying and gathering:
I measured the Center tube on the aluminum oil filter housing as arrived and supplied the photos.
(if this is not precise enough, I can remove the tube assembly and measure it with my Sterrett dial calipers)

* The first photo shows that the scale was at the tube support and not all the way in the bottom of the housing itself.
* The second photo shows OAL of the tube.

If someone has the old plastic filter housing with the center tube still intact and can supply the measurement similar as pictured, this would help all that come to this thread to look for said information!

a. Knows about the hole in the ozone layer.
b. Is concerned with the holes arrows make.

Ok, with just a small amount of deduction, I have converted the measurements to metric.
I didn't have a metric scale so I used what I had! :D

2 21/64" = 2.328 (in thousands of an inch)

2.328 (in thousands of an inch) converted to metric = 59.13 mm

DISCLAIMER: This may be off just a bit due to not measuring with dial calipers.
 
Speaking of "carefully reading and comprehending" you should heed your own advise. I never said it was hard, just more tedious...and I guess youve got the WHOLE car manufacturer thing figured out now, huh? Make it more to change your oil. If anything it would be counter productive to make it more work for YOU to change the oil vs Toyota dealer. Why would they want to take more time for a simple procedure and take up more time on their lift...all while the cost of an oil change at the dealer hasnt changed in years?

You seem to think that I am addressing all Toyota years for Tacomas and 4Runners and I am not.

I specifically stated the year 2016 4Runner (as well as Tacomas from that year too).

I own a 2008 & 2012 Tacoma and yes changing the oil and oil filter is a snap, no details to contend with. Also used to own a 2003 4Runner and changing the oil for that was a snap as well. But after reading others experiences with changing the oil on their new 2016 Tacomas as well as 2016 4Runners I now know specifically what they meant.

As for it being a hard job to change the oil I never said such a thing. I simply stated that it had become more of a tediuos task to do compared to other previous Toyota years and that the manufacture purposely makes it more of a job so that the consumer will more than likely take the vehicle back to the dealership to have them do it instead.

You need to "carefully read and comprehend" things before you start posting comments about them.

Tough crowd huh? Well think of it as tough love of sorts. Members here may be tough; but it's (I think) a way to get folks to think about what they're doing so no harm comes to their vehicles. You spend North of 40K for a 4Runner and then modify one of its primary systems, you are taking a sizeable risk. You won't know if the changes you made worked and created no issues until it's too late.

So the plastic housing center tube is about 9/16" longer and that would probably indicate about how much of the filter element is unsupported by the center tube in the metal housing. :eek:

Is it safe to assume the ruler/scale is resting on the tube support itself and not down in the bottom of the housing?

As pictured in my post above?
