2016 4Runner Trail Alternator question

I am having a tough time getting an answer on if the 2016 4Runner has a smart alternator or a standard one - I am getting ready to install a sPOD Bantam, and if a smart unit I ground to chassis, if standard, I ground to the battery negative.

I cannot find an answer in manual, or forum searches, so I hope someone can provide some info,

If by smart you mean voltage sensing, yes. There is an alternator sensing circuit that detects the output and adjusts for voltage drops.
