If you're looking for the most comfortable bedding within your 4Runner, look no further...
This post details how to set up a bed inside your 2016 4Runner SR5 with 3rd Row Option.
I have perused the forums and stumbled upon many sleeping platform builds. Many that caught my eye included:
However, all of these guides lacked the 3rd row option and therefore their middle row seats could fold up. Finally I discovered this post: which detailed how he made a sleeping platform for the 4rd row option on the cheap. His guide specifically mentioned that his goal was to have ready access to utilize the second-row seating. This meant a collapsible and stowable sleeping platform. I have since done this, and taken the measurements necessary so that you don't have to.
Materials
First I went and picked everything up at Home Depot and Miner's Ace Hardware...
Final Product:
Here I have backed out the 36" x 42" plywood to show the 2 42" x 21" plywood underneath. The two 42" x 21" are placed next to each other with the longest side hanging over the gap between the rear area and the 2nd row seats. The 2 Larger Plywood panels sit on top of these boards, completing the bridge over the gap. The last, large panel sits on top of the two rear panels, leveling everything. Everything is designed to fit inside the rear area with the 2nd row up and in use. NOT Pictured is the 3" memory foam placed underneath the rear plywood panels, it is laying on the grass in the second picture. Check the album to see more...
Hope this helps someone. I chose to go for 1/2" thick plywood and the total cost for everything was less than $300.
