2016 TRD PRO or 2016 Trail Premium?

This is my update...

I connected with a really nice guy in NorCa, put a deposit on a Grey TRD Pro scheduled to come later this summer....guy seemed like a straight shooter so hope it all works out.

Also, waiting on a potential connection in SoCa for employee discount....but no word yet and I am not so sure how solid it will be. I know this person has the ability to hook up people because my buddy got a 2015 SR5 4x4 for $31k...but I am one removed so not sure they will extend it to me but here is to hope in miracles hah...

got mine from carson also, but its only a trail with kdss. white also!!!

I purchased my White Trail from Dianne and Gloria at Carson Toyota in early March of this year. Quoted me $2k under MSRP in the first email and was out the dealership in less than 1 hr when I picked it up. I contacted about 10 SoCal dealerships and Carson Toyota was the only one offering $2k off of MSRP.

Thank you so much bluecollarjock! I just drove home that Trail Premium with KDSS from Carson Toyota. Paid $2k UNDER MSRP! I am NOT paying $7K over MSPR for a Pro. I am extremely happy with my Trail Premium. Now time for the Mods.

Mine used to look like that a little over a year ago. Once the mods start they don't stop! :)

In a few weeks I'm paying MSRP for a TEP w/ KDSS and sliding rear cargo deck in the color I want in CA. According to the broker I'm using, no dealers are budging on price and MSRP is the best I'm going to get. It sounds like you got a pretty good deal!

yes from Dianne,, hopefully ill see some white trails around with carson plates so I can meet and greet soon!!

As has been stated, you will pay a premium for PRO in So.Cal. If you're going to upgrade the suspension - you'll be taking off some of the stuff that makes it the pro. I like my KDSS, especially on mountain roads.

My two-cents as I went through this dilemma last year.

Congrats! So Dianna hooked you up??
She has easily been the coolest person with a wonderful personality I've dealt with at a car dealer, and no BS...gives you the build sheet and price and it seems for Trails she is hooking us up $2k under sticker.

For those in SoCa who want a Trail, seems that Dianna at Carson is someone to get in touch with. I would tell her you found out about her on the 4runner forum. The more guys she deals with from here, maybe the more likely she will keep the deals coming under sticker price which around here is a blessing.

any one hear of her working with folks outside the area? I get to SCAL frequently for work and it would be nice to get one bought and then I could simply pick it up on my next trip down there.

I do not see why that would be an issue at all...contact her and you will have an answer within minutes I bet...I will send you the email

Thank you sir. Still trying to nail down exactly what I am most interested. Right now I am leaning strongly towards the regular trail with KDSS. Once I get that figured out I will call her.

Thanks again.

Good luck! I might actually like a Trail regular if that means cloth...but it looks good like i may be going to your neck of the woods to get a TRD Pro end of May... there is a dealer near Sonoma that sells below sticker on the TRD Pros...so I imagine they might work good deals on Trails too....send me a message if you want the guys name and number if that is closer to you

If that works out let me know. So far everything seems to be well above sticker and if they will go below sticker on a Pro maybe they will do the same for a regular Trail.

Good luck on getting one and share pics if you get it.

This is exactly why I am leaning towards the Trail with KDSS. Does your set up take away from ride quality on the road over what stock offers?

Thanks in advance.

So sticker for TRD Pro is about $43,100. But in SoCal it wasn't uncommon to see market adjusted value result in prices $6-10k over sticker. After a very frustrating experience trying to source a TRD Pro, I ended up getting a TEP for $39,797.

Adding the Toytec/Bilstein 5100 lift, Total Chaos UCA's, ATX wheels and Cooper tires my total vehicle cost ended up being $43,920 including installation.

What did I get and what didn't I get by not going with the TRD Pro?
I got a great suspension with higher lift and greater alignment adjustability. I got a more aggressive wheel/tires with greater offroad capability (sorry but Nitto Terras are crap). I also got a moonroof and KDSS (a $1,750 option I might add) on the stock vehicle.

What I didn't get was the Toyota name on the grill, emblems on the side, interior TRD accessories, and a front TRD skid plate.

Yeah, all in all, I'm extremely happy with how things turned out. It's not to say I would've been unhappy with the TRD Pro but I feel I got so much more for my money instead of TRD branded this and that. But I probably would have modded or changed things on the Pro adding even more cost.

nice. This is exactly why I'm always shocked people who are going to add a suspension get the TRD Pro in California. They waste $5000 they could be spending on the mods.

And you can easily add the Toyota grill if you want it. I put one on my Trail in 25 minutes.

That right there is the exact reason I went with a TEP. Plus, I am a sucker for blue. It was a match made in Toyota Heaven.

I do not know where in SoCa you are, but if you passed me in that I would be rubber necking big time...looks awesome...

I am still hoping to get TRD Pro from NorCal dealer, but I agree it seems you have a better truck for same price. My reasoning this time around is that every 4x4 I've owned (well almost every one), I have gone bonkers adding stuff going way overboard like an addiction. And the older I get, and living at least 4 hour round trip from any wheeling, making it difficult to just go play on a whim's notice....I make my vehicles less roadworthy, ride worse, worse mpg, and never wheel them (well hardly)....so in getting TRD Pro I have the minor lift, rims, and AT tires (even if they are not so great), full warranty, no temptation to lift it. Because if I get a Trail, once I say I am gonna lift something I keep adding parts to the suspension because if you are gonna do it do it right right?? Then it just keeps flowing with bumpers, skids, winch etc etc....

I am hoping to get a TRD Pro, and leave it BONE STOCK...if I go trail riding it should be fine for most anything I would do, and will be WAY WAY better than a Jeep for long roadtrips. I will probably wheel more with a TRD Pro than I did with my Jeep Rubicon, because who wants to rattle, bounce, and go deaf for hours on the highway to get to the trails? With a TRD Pro I might actually enjoy roadtrips more and hit mild trails. The small lift and locker will make it go plenty of places, as I have seen on here guys with stock 4runners going all sorts of gnarly places. When the Nittos wear out, I will put on some better tires, maybe the new BFG ATs or Toyo ATs...and hope that I only fall for maybe some extra lights and sliders in the future...again I want to get something and keep it as stock as possible this time around. Looking forward to a 4runner, will probably feel like a caddy compared to using a Rubicon as a DD!!!

The ride is an altogether different quality. I've said before it's like going from a Camry to a BMW M3. It is stiffer and less cushy but, not uncomfortable by any stretch of the imagination. It feels purpose built if that helps. I totally dig the KDSS, although I can't speak to the difference that my new suspension would have made to the SUV lean that the KDSS corrected - but I love the way a KDSS equipped 4runner corners. It's almost sporty feeling. And I say that having owned European sport sedans that cornered like they were on rails. I love my Trail and I'm glad it worked out that the overpriced (in So.Cal.) TRD PRO I was obsessing over didn't work out. I feel way better off.

This is funny. There is this dude I keep seeing on my commute who has a new Trail in the same color as mine. It still has the dealer plates on it. Every time he sees me his head does this huge turn. It's flattering and I get it. I used to do this to the new lifted runners too. Now I have the cool runner and I'm getting the looks. It's fun as hell. I'm going to have to wave to the dude next time.

I usually nod, thumbs up, or wave to any nice lifted Jeep, pickup, 4runner, or classic muscle car :-)
