2017 4Runner Colors (Let's speculate...)

I completely agree with you. I ambin the same boat. Want to trade in my wrangler for a trd pro but dont want to buy a 2016 and miss out in something on the 2017 model. I wish they would have some more information by now. If they are not changing anything on the new year model younwould think they would have released information by now.

The TRD Pro colors have been confirmed over and over and over again...the inferno isn't coming back. The exclusive color for '17 is going to be cement.

Right, the dealer swears nothing is changing but they are sales people so I don't trust them. ;-) I'm torn between the SR5 & the SR5 Premium because of the options. They could change the differences just enough to sway me in the other direction, so I'm waiting. Their big sales event ends on 9/6, so maybe after that some 2017 info will come out. Right now I think they are just very heavily pushing the 2016 to get rid of them.
 
Historically speaking..what changed between 2014, 2015 and 2016? All that I know of besides color on the TRDP was the center stack display where most of that information was put into the IC and the center stack retained the clock only. That's about the only change that I am aware of..

Oh that and perhaps the USB port location (center stack vs glovebox).

Other than that I know of no significant changes in those 3 years so.. take that for what it's worth for 2017.

My little bit of research showed they added the new computer in 2015, and updated it in 2016. I may be wrong, I didn't spend too much time on that. One year they made the powered driver's seat standard too. Little things like that might make a difference to me. ;-) I don't NEED a new car right now, just ready to update from my 2004 SR5, so I'd rather wait and be sure I will be happy for many years to come.

Let me explain something from an engineering point of view that might help you:

Any vehicle manufacturer will "update" a vehicle almost every year, even though you won't see or know about most updates. Why?

To make a vehicle safer (all the safety features including material spec changes)
To make a vehicle more sell-able (paint colors, entertainment systems, model name changes, etc)
To reduce manufacturing costs (materials change, manufacturing techniques)
To improve efficiency (From ECU tweaks to type of tires provided)
To improve some type of performance (ECU tweaks, changing brake line material, etc)

My point is there have been hundreds of changes to the 4Runner since 2014 that most people never know about. Sure, body style changes from 2013 to 2014 was something people could see and thought it was a major change. In reality though, the 5th gen 4Runner is basically the same since they started offering it in late 2009. As a matter of fact the 5th gen 4Runner uses a LOT of the same parts that were used on the 4th gen 4Runner!

All sources indicate that there will be absolutely no change (other than renaming the Trail Edition to TRD Off Road and adding the cement color to the TRD PRO. You have a guy Jordan that has been telling you this stuff and he is giving you the same info that the dealer gets.

Now, if you are only worried about the color or the body styling or entertainment system that's fine but pretty shallow. What you should be more concerned with is that they are continuing to give us a bullet proof engine, drivetrain and suspension. THOSE are the things that give you years of reliability and durability, not paint colors. All indications in those important areas say that 2017 will be basically the same as 2010. That's what is important. Sure, they have made hundreds if not thousands of changes since 2010 but the basic premise of the 5th gen 4Runner will continue. Knowing that should give you confidence to make your purchase.

The 4Runner design changes are slow and they build on what works and major changes rarely happen. They make small tweaks years to year and most are never known. If you want something different, then wait til 2018 but even then it might be more of the same. Good luck.

Got it, thanks! So is there something they might break in the 2017 that I should worry about enough to go rush out to get a 2016? If it doesn't hurt to wait, why shouldn't I just wait?

You do have a very good case here, making me think it's better to buy at the end of a production year rather than the beginning. I'm so on the fence right now!

That's basically what tipped me away from the 2016 Tacoma and the 2017 Ridgeline. Brand new designs, lots of new kit with unknown track records.

The T4R in its current design is about as field tested as is possible.

Right, I know I don't want to get a 2018, so it's a decision between 2016/2017!
 
There are people who buy the first year of a new generation but not me. I'm no beta tester for something so costly.

You're getting to the point where you either have to order a 2016 soon or you will have to settle for remaining lot stock or wait for an order to be accepted for a 2017.

My understanding is that they already quit making them. A local dealer has 6 Silver SR5 Premiums, quoted a price of $35,748 including freight. Sounds like a good deal to me, but we have to see what they give me for trade-in on my 2004.

2016's aren't available to order any longer. 2017 inventory is out and available.

The specs are just like the 2016s besides the colors for the TRD PRO and the Trail being called the TRD Offroad.
 
I think the early success of the 6th Gen will be largely dependent on the powertrain. While we all agree that what we have is adequate, I think everyone would like a more modern transmission even if only the 6 speed AT, and if they brought back the V8 with the discontinuation of the GX... you would see a lot of early adopters.

Now if the new engine is a tweaked 3.5 from the Tacoma and 6-speed... well most people will probably wait a couple years.
