I have an offer from a dealer for a 17 Blizzard Pearl/Sand Beige Limited (no pull out tray no thrid row) for $42,600. The MSRP is $45,174. I plan on trading a 2014 Sienna XLE van that has 69,000 miles on it. The dealer gave me a trade in price of $19,500 for the van which I think is good.

My question is would you guys go for the 2017 4Runner at that price or wait for the 18's to come out. I'm aware that there are no changes for the 18 model. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Can't wait to get rid of this Sienna and back into a T4R.

I've had four 4Runners. My fith will be a '18 Turd Pro.

If you are buying a Limited, save the money on the '17. If you were buying a unique color or Pro, I'd go for the '18.

I have one dealer at $42,600 saying they can't go any lower. Another is at $41,799 (in redwood...wifey wants beige). The higher dealer said to go with the lower dealer because they are loosing money on the deal. Now I don't know dealers to sell cars to lose money...

Can I ask you how you go them to go so low?

"Can't" is dealerspeak for "wont". They CAN go much lower, whether they will or not no one here knows.

Depends a lot on where you live ... you didn't say. In areas where the 4R is in demand, to get 5% off is average. 10% off is about the best anyone gets - exceptions of course. A trade-in allows the dealer to muddle things up - they may give you a good discount, but less on the trade, or vice-versa.

Your discount is 6%, which is good in some areas, fair in others.
The dealer has to know you're a serious buyer, otherwise you're just another shopper. Lastly, big discounts on '17s, like US mfgrs, won't happen either - a point or two more ... maybe.

You only know what they'll actually take when you whip out the checkbook, offer them $X and walk if they refuse. If they DON'T call you, well, you know. If they DO, the door is still open.

If "Redwood" is NORCAL, then you may not get any better.

This: "The higher dealer said to go with the lower dealer because they are loosing money on the deal." is just sales BS ... then again, maybe they just won't go lower.

Like I said the ONLY way to know is to make them a serious offer of (say) $41,900, and walk if they refuse.

All up to you, as to how much you're willing to do to save a few bucks. You could outsmart yourself too - and lose the car you want. No magic answer.

Are you getting a decent discount for CA? I'd say yes.

You have to decide. If you listen to someone in the Midwest, saying "I got mine for X", it'll make you crazy. The cost of running a dealership in the Bay Area is way more than one in Bumf#ck, Illinois.

Here's my story.

I was looking for TRD Pro in Cement as my first choice and Alpine White as second.

No Cements were located in Canada but I was able to secure Alpine White. I can wait for 2018 but looks like only new colours are Cavalry Blue and Black so I'm sticking with '17. Got great trade in value for my car and slight discount from MSRP.
