2018 4Runner oil filter wrench

Hey everybody. We just rolled over 5k miles on our new 2018 4Runner Off Road Premium. We are loving it.

I like to do my own oil changes and am looking to get a filter housing wrench like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oil-Filter-Wrench-6-8-Cylinder-Engines-for-Toyota-Lexus-Tundra-Sequoia-4Runner/302004384916?epid=2076305451&hash=item4650dd3494:g:ZfEAAOSwEjFXeh-b. Problem is all of the wrenches on the interwebs always list compatibility for 4Runners up to 2016. Doesn't the 2017 and 2018 have the same filter housing as the 2016 4runner? Did something change for the model year 2017?

It's the same. If you go with that specific one I wouldn't recommend using a 3/8 ratchet. Put a 1/2 whatever size socket that is to remove and tighten. The plastic housings are fragile so be careful with it.

Check out jowett performance. They make a replacement billet oil filter housing.

1/2 is larger than 3/8. Did you mean 1/4?
I'm too to do this stuff myself, but since you said the plastic piece is fragile I was just wondering.

Same as what the Toyota dealers use, and won't mess up the plastic filter housing.

I went with motivx too. It works great.

Another vote for the Motivx. Solid unit. Worth the extra bucks.

I own the TOY640 and the Motivx. Both work well but the TOY640 would always get stuck on the filter housing. I would have to pry it off every time I used it. The Motivx has a more loose fit. I actually wish it were a little more snug fitting but not to the point that it gets stuck like the 640.
I have used the Motivx every oil change since purchasing it though.

That used to be my frustration with the TOY640 as well. I’ve since found that a light tap with my ratchet will make it fall right off.
