2022 Off Road Premium Oil change questions

I’m going to be helping a friend do her first oil change in a 2022 Off Road Premium 4R. I have a 2015 SR5. Since she is some distance away, I’m trying to learn if there are any material differences between the vehicles so I can pack my tools and parts. I’ve used the Antman guide on my vehicle.

Assumptions: Filter: 04152-YZZA5, Crush washer 90430-12031

I have this 64mm filter wrench - Motiv MX2320. For some reason they only list 4R compatibility as 2010-2021 on Amazon. Is this the correct filter wrench?

On my 15 SR5, the lower filter housing was plastic. Is the ORP filter housing also plastic? Has anyone replaced it with the Aluminum one (#15620-31060)?

Plastic housing oil filter was done in mind of non-professional, diy, campsite service, where over-torquing most likely happens and lead to damage of housing and oil leak. Metal housing most on Lexus models and other vehicles, driven by people who service their vehicles at dealership, required torque wrenches and gentle professional handling, where damage possibility minimal. If you cross-thread plastic housing, it breaks. If you over-torque metal housing, more problems will arrive. That's was original thinking. Reality 180 deg opposite. If your lady friend serviced Runner at dealership, leave it plastic.

Since your friend has an Off Road Premium, they are likely to have the TRD skid plate. That must be removed to do oil changes. It can be a challenge to line up when reinstalling. Thus, many people have replaced the mounting bolts with studs which makes it so much easier to reinstall.

Because it is so hard to line up the skid plate while trying to get the bolts started, many people, including the dealer, often strip the threads.

I was completely unaware of the separate set of frame mounts for the TRD skid plate. Thus, it took me awhile to comprehend the Saker mod.

All those skid plate threading problems are disconcerting. Especially if you bashing that guard off road.

OK - That made me laugh. I never heard the explanation behind it, I just preferred the idea of the metal housing.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of those threading issues with skid plates are due to the dealer mechanics using impact wrenches.

Amusing that people will remove their skid plates as a precaution prior to taking the 4R in for an oil change.
