2018 vs 2019 Limited 4WD

Currently I have a 4Runner Sport 4WD that I bought new back in 2007. No major issues with it other than the AC makes a slight noise (still works great) and 3 of my 4 door lock actuators went out. But, I have the urge to upgrade.

I was wanting a 2019 Limited 4WD, but as I wait I am seeing some huge discounts on the 2018. I know there were some improvements to the TRD Pro, but what are the differences on the Limited? For $5-$6k less, if there is no difference, I might as well get a 2018.

Another question I have, how does the Limited 4WD compare to the old Sport? I don’t do trails, the worst I see comes from our hunting property. A decent amount of mud when it rains, A few hills so 4WD is a must when wet. Every year I have to help someone out.

what features are you looking for? Are you opposed to upgrading with aftermarket products if the result is a more capable, custom fit vehicle? do you prefer the limited front end? or the sr5/Offroad/pro front end?

if you plan on keeping it stock and go off road, the limited stock 20" rims with narrow tires and shorter side wall my not be a great choice.

If you love the limited but want a bit more off road ability, swap out the wheels and tires for stock 265/7-17 tires and stock size rims.

it the limited front end and creature comforts are not game changers, check out the other trims.

personally, the ORP is the best bang for your buck IMO if you don't need dual zone climate control or 3rd row seats and want a potential off road beast.

Thanks for the feedback! I know this forum is full of car gurus, but I must admit I am a bit of a novice. My extent of car knowledge is changing my own oil and topping off my fluids. My 2007 Sport is completely stock, the only thing I added was Weathertech floor and cargo liners.

I was looking at the TRD Pro and the limited. The TRD had a lot of features I would probably never benefit from, while the limited had a few features I wouldn’t mind having. They are similar in price, but I figured since I am only in the mud 5-6 weekends a year, it wasn’t worth it.

I can't remember what the differences are, but they're superficial at most. These are basically the same truck. Assuming you're aware of the difference between LE and other trim models, go with the 18. Then go buy a new set of tires (and maybe smaller wheels while you're at it) and you're all set.

No difference between '18 and '19 Limited trims, and I just got an awesome deal on an '18!

The main difference in the 4x4 system with your older Sport is that the limited will be full time 4 wheel drive, rather than the part time that the Sport has. You do still have the center locking differential with options of 4 high and 4 low as well, so you'll still retain off road/mud/snow abilities. As others have said, the biggest limiting factor is wheels and tires.

2018 vs 2019, you can get the Nightshade edition for 2019. Black chrome and emblems/rims.

I have a 2016 Limited and the only thing I dont like is all the silver chrome.

Love the chrome. All that matters is that the back window goes down. Color doesn't matter.

I have a 15 limited and newly acquired 18 sr5. The sr5 is smoother but riding the limited has vented seats. If you want leather than that's the way to go. I personally feel the cloth sr5 seats are cooler on the rear but our coolers may not be working right. Our seat leather looks new. I have used Leather Masters protectant since new. I have the tan with no affects from the product. I also use their cleaner and diluted woolite for routine cleaning.

I love the limited but got the sr5 because I didn't want two. We did go on a wash board road, with wife driving 25 to 30 mph, and the xreas was great. There is no lean with that suspension I can tell.

I just picked up a 2019 Limited - my dealership here in Toronto was offering a $600CAD discount if you pickedup a 2018 Limited instead of a 2019 Limited.

Recommend you also test drive a TRD Offroad Premium with KDSS. The rear locker can get you out of a jam. The sunroof is optional. I wanted the extra head room.
