2019 TRD Pro Tacoma can get a TRD SNORKEL? Can the 4Runner get the same???

Don't think Fox is any better. In fact, I think you are going to see a lot more issues, but probably much better performance.

The amount of issues with Fox's compared to Billstein's is dramatically lower. One of the engineers who helps spec and build the Tacomas/4Runners and I had a conversation and the consensus was to dump the Billsteins ASAP.

Toyota moves SO slowly that any change takes about 2-3 years.

For example the Nitto Terra Grappler G2s are better in EVERY way to the Terra Grapplers that ship on TRD Pros, and Nitto pushed Toyota to update them. However the amount of testing a vehicle manufacturer has to do, and Toyota's internal process, is so slow that just changing a tire would take at least 2 years.

Man have to give credit... that quote sums it up pretty well when it comes to the overland trend. I think we are all a little guilty of the play dress up game and getting excited about gadgets and off-road bling... but the people getting into it now are just plain ridiculous with all the crap they pile on for that one week a year road and dirt path trip they do.

Oh they're absolutely pandering to the Overland trend. Safari makes a fantastic snorkel already.

You're not going to save money by waiting on this TRD Snorkel, or whatever they call it (Scuba Steve Edition), so it'll come down to people saying "I want that because it says TRD. And those people most likely never needed a snorkel to begin with. But again we dress for the job we want, not the one we have.

My budget dictates I only buy the clothes that I need. Therefore, a snorkel is not a necessary until the boss says the job requires it.

...or until I run Baja with a bunch of Raptors...

Toyota slow with updates? I see no evidence of this :moon:

The other mfgs will all be on compression ignition gasoline hybrids with 20 speed transmissions and Toyota is going to still be pimping the 4.0 with a 5 speed and claiming legendary reliability of the TURD pro. Or maybe they will dress up the camry with an fj40 retro body and AWD. That will sell like crazy with that legendary Toyota offroad legacy.

...but what about the flux capacitor and hover technology? How else are they going to get over hump day?

I still own an FJ40 (my first vehicle), and it's...not a great vehicle. But that's for another debate.

The point being is that FIAT was selling JKs like crazy, and even so they updated it to the JL, and the early reports are that the JL is just about better in every regard.

Simply put...you CAN update a design even though it's selling pretty well and preserve what people like about it while making it better.

I totally agree. Just being a bit contrarian. Toyota doesn't even put their own in house updated stuff in the USA market other than the Land Cruiser. The Prado 150 has a ton of features even in the cheapest base model unit that we can't get regardless of options. That's frustrating considering the profit margins in the USA market and our flexibility in regulation - it is much easier to sell modified vehicles in the USA than Australia. It would be almost nothing in terms of engineering time to make an OEM long travel. There's nothing to it for an OEM to swap a few control arms and put in longer axle shafts and some longer shocks.

The basic bones are there. The body is fine. The basic platform doesn't need anything changed. It just needs relatively manageable updates to modernize it. We're not asking for a miracle here.

I think the improvements to the JL, and the trucks from the big 3 are finally forcing Toyota's hand. I hope.

Good lord, people. If this is what it takes to get the fanboys excited there's a reason why Toyota has done the ABSOLUTE minimum to keep the 4Runner updated.

So yes, factory snorkels on the tacoma and 4Runner. It will be an option when ordering. Same fender but it just comes pre-punched with the mount holes and intake hole. I don't know about the A-pillar support but I would assume that's pre-drilled.

So you're basically just getting a safari style snorkel (it's not made by Safari FYI) that Toyota will charge you extra for during the ordering process.

As I said in the other thread, this just brings the 4Runner in line with options that Toyota offers on the Prado 150 in other markets.

The new TRD Pro is the same TRD Pro, it's just an updated appearance package when you get right down to it.

Dunno, I'd assume separate. I seriously doubt it's better than anything else on the market.

Look closely at the fender. Hard to tell, but looks like the flare is different. Not sure what that means. But the body line of the fender flare appears to be moved forward and up from the current TRD Pro Tacoma. I'm going with - some type of "extended travel" front suspension on it, which is probably just an extra small increment of travel with minor changes to the stamping of the UCA to re-angle the ball joint. And bigger tires. Probably just 265 70 17's on the Tacoma that currently has the smaller 275 65 17s.

I do eventually plan on making the 4runner into my "toy" and doing more off road trips. Right now it's just too new and my daily. Although, having factory installed parts that say TRD on there, make me more okay with adding things like this now while I am under warranty.

While you’re there, ask em why they don’t make more TRD stuff for the 5th Gens such as a TRD exhaust, etc.
