It can be disabled by the owner in the driver display screen. Unfortunately though, when you do, it leaves the yellow warning icons on the dash that it has been disabled

It is official from the Toyota dealer... I lifted my 2020 4Runner 2 inches in front and 1 in rear and after an alignment the accident avoidence system malfunctioned. The dealer said "lifting the vehicle makes the system unuseable. The only thing we can do is disable it." So that is what I'm allowing Wolfchase Toyota in Memphis to do I guess. Something to think about before you buy a newer 4Runner if the safety sense is a buying factor but you want to run 33s.

Did you buy it for the TSS? or did you buy it to lift it?

I don't see a problem here........T4R's have existed for decades without the TSS

Eh... I waited for 2020 for the TSS, keyless entry and start, and better radio instead of buying a 2019. But just losing the TSS is acceptable.

Precisely why (in addition to the push button start - didn't want it), that I didn't wait on the 2020 T4R's (purchased my 2019 Off-Road Premium in March 2019). If I was in the market for a new T4R today, I'd be looking for a new 2019 ORP. Plenty of them still out there on dealer lots, even if you have to travel to find the one you want. My 2 cents anyway.

Precisely why I waited for the 2020... push button start, bigger screen, apple carplay. I don’t care as much about the TSS, but we’ll call that a bonus as well. Different strokes I guess. Love my ‘20 so far!

Why can't they recalibrate it? Tundra guys get that done all the time by the Toyota dealers.

WOW ! I am having my brand new 2020 4 runner SR5 4x4 lifted next month at a shop that does lifts for our Toyota dealer in Alabama. No issues heard this way. I was told they will install a 2 inch on the front and realign. 450 BUCKS. By the way this is my 5th 4 runner. The 2020 is the best so far. Couldn't get the accessories wanted on a Pro so I opted for the SR5 4x4. It is black with Tan suplex leather, moonroof, passisve entry, heated seats, push button rear window, Bridgestones, running boards, all weather mats, 3rd row, power front seats and other stuff. I could have gotten a Trd Pro for 175 bucks less but just wasn't the vehicle I thought. Put the blackout kit on it, Trd front skidplate

Okay, I'll bite. I have a 4runner with TSS and have no real opinion on it except I like using the radar cruise. But, why all the hatred for TSS...am I missing something, because mine seems to be a good system.:shrug:

As many have said the dealer incompetent. I have a 2020 with a 3” lift and have no issues with the TSS system. The only issue I have experienced was snow covering the sensor in the lower grille. The local dealer here has a few 2020 TRD ORP’s lifted with Toytech 3” lifts ready for sale.

Incompetent dealer, move along. I have a lift on my 2018 tacoma and 2020 4runner without issues and does not void tss. It’s usually not needed but it can be recalibrated for new ride height. 2017 tacoma owners on tacomaworld would love to say glad i didnt get a 2018 too. I’m just happy to have some toyota 4x4s.

Dealer just didn’t want to deal with it. Only time they need to be calibrated is when they have been in a collision.

As someone who has previously owned a Subaru Outback with Eyesight, I wish my 2019 had TSS...but the deal was too good to pass up and wait for a 2020 model.

I agree with you all that the system should certainly be recalibratable but the fact that a dealer said "no you can't lift these" was the point I'm making. I know there are many lifted and working but mine is one that got the error. The dealer is reputable but alas they are not mod friendly.

I myself like the TSS and waited to buy one for it. But I also wanted a small lift and bigger tires etc... I would still lift it even knowing what I know now. I just wanted others to know my experience before they do it just in case.

The dealer said they worked for hours trying to figure out how to disable it before looking at the Tacoma bulletin on it and applying that. So obviously they do this "solution" (cop out) on Tacos too. The kicker is they do lifted 4runners from vendors too.

Just bought a 2019 to replace my wife's Gen 1 Sequoia. She specifically did not want a car that was smarter than her, neither do I.

I had a 2" leveling kit installed in the front by the dealer and 285/70R17's also by the dealer with no mention what so ever from them on the safety sense.

I think it would be worth getting a second opinion. The dealership I go to has a new 2020 on the showroom floor with a 3" lift and I'm pretty sure they can't sell a new one with Safety Sense disabled.
