2020 model issues/observations

I went with Toyota's 10' rule b/c I don't have 25' level anywhere. I have seen/read the link to the good directions you provided-just don't have the real estate. I leveled my 2011 Trail an inch or so in the front with adjustable Bilsteins and had everyone flashing me with my low beams on. The dealer should have adjusted the headlights when they installed the shocks. I got it fixed but was never happy with the headlights after that-low beams were ineffective. 2020 ORP seems to be no better. Point is none of us wants to blind oncoming drivers yet it would be nice to be able see Bambi as well. We all are seeing a variety of aftermarket headlights on vehicles both good and bad. From an oncoming point of view the German headlights seem to be effective and nonobtrusive though I have not driven one. I know Toyota can rise to the challenge. If they just hadn't purchased a 10 year supply to save $. :heh: It is enough of a safety issue it should be addressed by Toyota.

Try to find a shopping mall that has a large flat parking lot or have a dealer align the bulbs properly. There is a huge difference between 10ft and 25ft when it comes to alignment.

Hands free echo with my iPhone 11

2020 ORP with Software version 1047
iPhone 11

After the update, calls are clear on my end. CarPlay and Bluetooth calls from where I'm sitting sound just fine. No complaints.

On the other side of the call it's a different story. Callers or recipients complain of an echo on their end. They can hear themselves talking. Makes it difficult to have a conversation even if it doesn't effect my side of the call. I've experienced it myself calling my phone from my office land line and other cell phones. I can hear the echo.

This is happening on CarPlay and Bluetooth calls.

I've tried:
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way up
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way down
Adjusting the ln call volume settings up and down through the head unit.
unpairing/pairing the phone before and after updates
4 different cables and 2 different usb adapters
Putting the phone in my pocket during calls
Muting/unmuting the call in progress

Nothing I've tried has solved or helped the echo issue. I've read post after post over the internet about this issue with Toyota and bluetooth echo across many models, not just the 4runner. I don't know what else to do to fix this problem but it seems every service adviser I've mentioned it to shrugs their shoulders and acts like they've never heard of such a problem. Hell, I had to show them the screenshot of the TSB just to get them to install the software update.

Very frustrating.

I also encountered brake squeaks very early on. I had the whole brake system disassembled and cleaned. Squeak gone. Caliper and everything remove and cleaned, with new grease in bolts. Tell the dealership, that's a warranty issue. They covered my whole cleaning.

I've had my 2020 Nightshade for one month now. I love it. My previous ride was an 06 Taco. I only have one complaint...the night I drove the 4Runner home from the dealer, it was a dark and stormy night (seriously). I had to pull over to check if the headlights were on and working because I could not see the road. They were on. But I won't complain about the headlights....I won't...

I'm in a very similar position where I have a 2005 Tacoma and looking to trade up for a 4R. It sounds like the choice fit well for yourself and I'm hoping for the same. Going to an auto show next week to get more acquainted with the 4R and other SUVs.

I've had a lot of issues with Android auto where the bottom buttons freeze up. I have to unplug and plug in again. Should I have dealer look at that TSB? I saw Android auto on it.

Bought my wife the 2020 OR
CarPlay works great. She is using iPhone XS. Maybe network where you are is not the best
Breaks no issue but expect to get some squick depending on weather. Common in all cars. IN my previous BMW all the time at start
Headlights are great if you do a quick upgrade. I did LED bulb conversion and output is close to what I have on my Land Cruiser from factory
Phone holder is an issue as phone moves in the small phone packet and doesn't fit well in cup holder. Getting her proclip which I have in my LC.

If you don't mind sharing, which LED bulb conversion did you go with?

Any issues I've had with android auto resolved with updating android auto and 'google' apps on my phone. Probably doesn't hurt to make sure software is updated on the vehicle as well. I have OnePlus 7 pro.

Just picked up my new '20 today and was surprised to find the tailgate does not pull itself closed like my '08. You have to manually push it closed all the way. Weird.

Quick question on the led upgrade, which leds did you use and did you have to perform adjustments?

Thanks,

Chris

For Low Beams went with XenonDepot.com LED bulbs which were $120. For fogs bought the 2in1 kit that some get modified with in the port. You can easily order them on Amazon. For the rest of bulbs (all inside, reverse, license plate) went with vleds.com
For Low Beams I didn't have to make as adjustment as headlights were perfectly aligned from factory (stock suspension and wheel size). Please note that when buying those bulbs a hole will need to be drill in the dust caps that come out. Bulbs will come with a washer seal. Those LEDs match perfect in color with Fogs.

The only issues I have is a rattle in my hatch somewhere. I'll be doing the OEM Audio+ next weekend so I'll try to find the rattle then.

No issues with brake squeak

I replaced my headlight bulbs with the Phillips XV2 kit from XenonDepot, I'm happy with the light output.

H11: XTR HID Kit

Do your XV2 have bright and dark spots as you drive down the road? Mine did and one other forum member said the same

First tank of gas is gone. I'm shocked at how slow and sluggish this thing is compared to my '08 V6. It just seems to struggle.

I did the H9 bulb upgrade, works great and much better fit than LED's on my 19.

I run my integrated smart phone, no plugs and no bugs.

I'm surprised at the amount of break squeak complaints. Maybe give the breaks a good 60-0mph break in?

I haven't noticed that, but they aren't adjusted perfectly yet. I did the 25 ft thing but think they need to come down a bit more. I don't get flashed but they have a lot of glow above the cut off line. I had the regular Phillips HIDs in my old 2010 Trail and those were brighter for sure. Regardless I'm happy with them and think I will be even more once they are adjusted a bit more.

Thanks cb1111. It looks like this applies, I'm currently version 1021. The links in the pdf don't link to downloadable firmware, I get an access denied error. I'm guessing the dealer has to do it.

See the other 4R forum. A user there added the software update files onto a google drive (post #200):

2020 4Runner SR5P Carplay Issue | Page 7 | Toyota 4Runner Forum [4Runners.com]

I was able to update my TRDP yesterday and no longer have phone call issues when connected via CarPlay using an iPhone 11 Pro.
