I know this has turned into a ***** thread, and I really do love my '20. But the weird mix of tech features, or lack thereof, is very puzzling.

Is it normal to be getting an oil change reminder at 4,600 miles? seems a bit early if Toyota is recommending 10k miles. Or is this just a reminder for the tire rotation at 5k? wording in the small display specifically says "oil change".

At least the brake squeak has gone away after 4k miles.

At 5,000 it is "scheduled maintenance" reminder - so they check fluids and rotate tires. No oil. I was irked that I dropped my car off for the day the first time to not get new oil but merely a "thumbs up, you're good!"

Be prepared for damage with that free oil. So many threads, many people have had body damage, engine damage, most abused is stripped bolts on the skid plate, busted oil filters etc. They use cheap unskilled help for oil changes and it's not just Toyota. When I had my Ford done the moron had approximately 13 quarts of oil in it.

Yeah I won't be wasting my time with a 5K maintenance. I can go to Discount Tire and they will rotate my tires for free.

I love my '20 TRD Pro. I had Jeep Wranglers for the last 10 years and was ready for a change. Having death wobble pushed me towards the 4R sooner than I wanted, but I'm really enjoying driving a stock vehicle. I love the looks of it. I love how it drives. I love how much nicer inside than my Jeep was. I have complaints, but the positives far outweigh the negatives so far. Many of my storage issues I have been able to overcome.

2020 Nightshade Limited for my wife (replacing 2004 Sienna with 275kmiles), got one in Nov 2019. Already 8k miles on it including some light off-roading in Death valley and snow in Tahoe. She calls it a tank (she loves the truck btw) and I totally understand her.
Couple of mods so far:
- Shrockwors sliders - great investment, had to remove the rockers though and replaced them with the Shrockwors ones.
- TRD pro wheels with General Grabber ATX tires. Looks so much better than the stock ones. Tires works fine on and off road as well as in the snow.
- Clear bra paint protection on the sides and front
- Next would be to do 2/1 inch lift using Raugh Country spacers (#767). Any comments about this lift? Any alternatives for X-Reas suspension?

Main issues and things I don't like:
- Toyota standard crossbars. They are totally useless for me. I have Thule box and if I put them on those crossbars the box is touching the antenna on the back. Need to have something higher.
- Rear cargo cover - not sure who design this but it should be fired. It cuts the trunk space significantly, it's hard to install and remove and it just do not work right.
- Had some issues with the infotainment but after upgrade at 5k miles checkup everything works fine
- No central switch to turn on/off all the lights in the car (I am looking for something like the central switch in Siennas)
- Seat memory are in such a place that I have to use a flashlight when its dark to see the buttons

Other than that so far car is absolutely amazing.

Question in regards to the TRD pro wheels with General Grabber ATX tires; any rubbing with the combo. Also, what size tire did you use on the TRD pro wheels?

Honestly, I've been thinking about paying to get my oil changed already and I've only got about 1550 on mine. I think the first oil change at 5000 miles is almost criminal. With break-in, I'd expect it to be 2000-2500 miles for the first change.



Probably doesn't need it, but I'm a bit old-school when it comes to this stuff. 5000 miles seems like they're stretching it out early-on.

I hope you’re sitting down. Toyota doesn’t want the oil changed until you’ve driven your first 10,000 miles.

Lots of things have changed since that trusty Model T, I tell ya!

If you want a vehicle that needs more frequent oil changes to accommodate your old-school ways, consider buying an old school vehicle.

What Toyota wants is to save itself money by not having to pay for more frequent oil changes under its maintenance plan. It has nothing whatsoever to do with what’s best for the vehicle.

Ask any passionate mechanic. They’ll laugh hysterically at the idea of the first oil change of a brand new car being at 10k miles.

And anybody who truly understands what happens to an engine during early usage would not want to leave that oil/filter in there for 10K. I did a first oil change at 1K miles on my '20 and will now do changes according to a regular schedule.

TSS/Pre-Collision Issue Resolved

Just wanted to report that a local dealer was able to re calibrate and TSS sensor and restore functionality while retaining the lift. Also, happy to repeat my thanks to Kevin at Toytec for working his network and finding a local dealer willing to go outside the bounds a bit to resolve.

I certainly will. Reached out to Pro Comp suspension today and the guy from there was awesome and really interested in trying to help. Even more impressive as I do not have their lift. He put me in contact with one of their guys at 4Wheel parts in HI and they seem very interested in understanding the issue and seeing what they can do to help solve this. If anything I appreciate people trying to help and will be sure to contribute anything I can on this. Big shout out to Pro-Comp and 4Wheel Parts, they will definitely be my go to for any future needs.

The tinted rear window negates some of the affect. Have you tried it with the rear window down? On mine it makes a significant difference.

2020 Venture Pkg - Customer bumper recommendations?

Recently purchased, love it. Quick question - does anyone know of a good aftermarket bumper that can be used and not affect the cruise control sensor that's built in? Or is this one of those scenarios where if I want to install a new bumper, i'd have to disable that sensor and potentially void my warranty. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you dont have anything blocking the sensor on the front (windshield side) of the mirror - I posted a thread on here complaining about the mirror dimming and someone pointed out the sensor on the front that i had unwittingly blocked with my backup camera causing it to stay perpetually dimmed

265/70 R17. No issues with rubbing although I have a feeling this is max what I could do without any extra lift or trimming.

That's common with any vehicle of this type.

I got a beautiful red 2020 TRD Off Road back in December. Everything was great until last week when I tried to start it and it needed a boost. (I’d been working at home so it had been sitting for a week.) After the boost, it was ok but I was a bit worried as I didn’t know why it was drained. Tried again today and it was even worse. I couldn’t even get the doors open with the smart key.

It’s basically brand new and only has about 2000 miles on it so everything is covered. However, this has me worried. A bum alternator, perhaps? Everything was fine when I was driving it daily pre-COVID-19.

Hard to say for sure since it was only a week the first time and it's unclear how much it was driven since it was boosted, but disconnecting the battery if it's going to be sitting for a long time isn't a bad thing to do.

Sitting for awhile, and short drives where the alternator doesn't have time to recharge the battery can be killer for a battery. Get it going with a jump start, and leave it running for awhile to ensure the battery gets a good charge.
