Well, I had my 6 month service Today. I asked them to take a look. They're replacing the entire cluster tomorrow. Appears they know about it and immediately decided to change it out. Free of charge to me of course. :rockon:

2nd post on this site - so my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong spot, replying to the wrong thread or otherwise talking nonsense.
Just bought a new 2020 4Runner TRD ORP with infotainment and toyota nav, one thing I can't seem to comprehend is that it has tracked all my previous movement within the map (red dots). As much as I like to see where I've gone before, I'm thinking there's got to be a way to get rid of this function.
If I'm missing something, let me know (see above in regards to talking nonsense), otherwise looking forward to posting more.

I'm pretty sure there's a breadcrumbs option somewhere in there. It might even be literally called breadcrumbs. It's probably on. I don't know if it's on by default, probably isn't, maybe someone turned it on at one point.

Thanks. Did a google search on “breadcrumbs” and it looks like it’s officially called GPS Route Trace - imagine I’ll be using this more often once I hit the trails.

Push the start button, and you hear "mrrrrrrrrrt" behind the dash. Just curious - anyone know what it is?
Is it the engine? It's back there behind the dash I believe.

LOL, smartass! No, there's some sort of electric motor type sound that goes off for about 1/2 second after hitting the start button but before the starter engages.

Mine makes all kinds of strange noises that no other vehicle I have ever had makes. Been told all of them are normal.
:becky: There's all sorts of crap back there. Immediate things that come to mind are climate control vents/baffles. The 4Runner has less of those startup sounds than my C63 does; it's just expected these days.

IMHO: It is activation of the brake system.
You can feel the brake pedal 'come up' during the noise.

I haven't thought of that as I pull my foot off the brake as soon as I hit the start button. I'm going to have to head out there and check...
Nope - that isn't it. Brake pedal doesn't move on mine at all. It's not that important, just more of a curiosity.

Maybe it's the sound of the fuel pump engaging? :shrug:

AFAIK it is the brake booster actuator/motor. My pedal does not move but if you look at the brake fluid reservoir after turning to the on position the level will lower slightly, turning off it raises back.

2020 ORP here. Only 1,500 miles so not enough to know of any real issues. Sold stock tires right away and put Toyo AT3 on it. Love them.
Brakes work great, no squeal. Passenger seat sensor so sensitive the seat belt alarm has gone off with small packages or my camera gear in the passenger seat. The seat belt dinging stops after a few minutes.
This is my 3rd 4Runner + a Tacoma and 2 GX and the ONLY gripe I have with it is the paint. At this rate, my Super White runner is going to look like a 13 year old candy addict sans Acutane. It seems anything that even brushes it too much goes to the metal. I am on my 3rd touch up job and have let one go as it is on plastic. I actually have a call in with Toyota on it.
I have noticed, from these 3 scratches and the touch up work, that the paint is crazy thin. I know ‘modern’ paint is different. WTS, it should be more durable than paint from decades ago. My dad restored cars for fun.. LOTS of them. We did my first car, a 1967 Camaro as a restoration project and I paid extra for really good paint on that car. That paint looked ‘thick’ whereas the Super White Toyota paint looks as thin as a sheet of paper before you get to the metal.
If I could afford it I would wrap it. I am going to be pissed if small things keep causing so much paint damage to the metal. Before this, I had an old F-150 and I ‘let’ that thing brush anything.. didn’t care.. was old and a beater but it NEVER went to the metal. I brushed tree limbs, palm tree limbs, garbage cans, etc.. never to the metal but the nozzle to a garden hose brushing my 4Runner left a 1” to the metal gash. Not cool and I am not happy. If I could buff these out or work them with paint/lacquer thinner I wouldn’t care.. but EACH one requires the Toyota touch up pen.
I took it to a body shop yesterday to get a quote on the door (1” scratch to metal) and guy said his shop couldn’t do better on a touch up than I did. A full door re-paint would be about $350-$400. I use the tip of a SIM card tool if anyone is interested..and stay ‘inside’ the scratch. .. but I shouldn’t have to be doing this as much as I am in 1,500 miles of ownership.
Outside of the paint issue I love it.. I have always wanted a Land Cruiser but I could see just putting $ into this Runner instead. Wife will always have the ‘luxury’ car so I get to have the trail ride.

Dawg...your post has me concerned. Have a 2012 Pro on order. Also super white. Wonder if this paint issue applies to all colors or specific to white. I would imagine they would be the same (except maybe metallics) but haven't heard anyone else with a complaint other than the thread about Toyota covering some white paint issues (not related to easy scratching though).

Yeah the paint on my AG T4R isn’t great either. Already a few little chips, and I have BABIED this thing so far in its 5100 mile life.
Had a 2004 Sienna in white for 14 years and 320k miles. That also had fairly crappy paint. The luster disappeared over the years (despite keeping great wax on it) and it chipped easily.
I have not been impressed at all with Toyota paint. Frankly, I think it’s garbage. But the overall package of the cars are outstanding, so it’s hard to get too irritated with the paint

I could be wrong but I think the white is the only ‘single stage’ paint used by Toyota. I did not know this until digging in to my issue. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the 4Runner but the paint is thin. A Toyota case manager was supposed to call me back yesterday but I have not heard from them. I may try them back now that I am done with work for the day. It sucks as I love the white/stormtrooper look but the paint is so thin. There was very little ‘room’ to touch up and still be ‘inside’ the scratch if that makes sense. I have another spot on a white area near my bumper where the paint has literally just come off. There is no scratch. If Toyota really wants to know what I want, I will ask for a wrap. I know that’s $$ but so is an almost $50K vehicle with questionable paint quality.
My honest advice at this time, if you plan to USE your 4Runner, is to avoid white.

I should add that I seriously doubt that Toyota will pay for a wrap. WTS, I think they should do something. I know they mentioned two paths, one being they address the paint and one being me possibly returning the vehicle.
Depending on how much of a PITA it is.. I may consider giving it back to them if that is an option. We can do without an extra car for a while. Hell, I bought it in July and it has just over 1,500 on it. I have no commute.
