I read an article awhile back we are actually generation X but on the cusp of it. They changed it after time and when you google it says we are millinaials which they didn't come with that word till way later. When I think of Mililanials I think of people born late 80s into the 90s beyond.

Everything I’ve read puts us early 80s births at Gen-Y/millennials. We share more with millennials than gen X because of being exposed to the era of information in our formative years versus seeing it for the first time as an adult.

It's a serious problem when the vehicle cannot detect the key. You cant start it! Or it starts beeping going down the road like you threw it out! Or like the one person got the key locked inside, it's never supposed to do that.

Fixing that is pretty expensive. When buying my new 2019 the extended warranty sales guy went through all the repair costs for crap like back up camera and keyless entry, probably being a huge selling point these days given most cars have it.

A lot of guys here type like they might keep the truck for 15 years. I have a few old vehicles laying around and not everything works, and as you could guess it's all electrical related.

When these super tech mobiles get some age none of them are going to resell for squat, some manufacturers went back to torsen beam to cut costs to add tech. The tech is going to be outdated way before its paid off then by the third owner it wont work. Tech is what gets people trade envy. Even guys here say they want 8" screens, the marketing is working!

we get it, you're old, technology is EVIIILLLLL. Entune does suck in these though. You can find something sucky in every vehicle. My F250 has way better "technology" as a base XLT but the speakers are 10x worse then the 4runner.

There is a key inside the fob to unlock the doors if the battery is dead. You hold the fob up to the PTS button to start it if the battery is dead.

Yeah, the chime goes off and a bright light flashes on the dash if you are trying to drive away without the fob. If you walk away from the vehicle with the fob and the vehicle is running the underhood siren goes off alerting you. If you can't see this or take steps to resolve it and keep on driving, well then....

Regular key already has keyless that can have issues too. Using the key to start the vehicle in a 5th gen is now actually activating relays in the BCM instead of traditional heavy gauge circuits supplying power to fuses that control various systems. Guess what, the prox key is activating relays in the BCM to to start the vehicle also.

Even the low end cars have them! Maybe they think we will change it anyways *. Pretty much my only complaint and having a push start so I can keep a fob in my pocket and open a door without pulling my key out.

This is it. This is not a refresh. 2021 is the model redesign / 6th Gen.

How do you know 2021 will get the redesign?

That's actually one of my least favorite safety features. When people decide to move in front of you and the car slams on the brakes at 75mph. I'd rather make the choice to slow down or move over.

I've learned this feature is great for long distance travel but almost worthless in tight city driving. We are in Texas and drive to CO every year and I barely do any driving through Kansas, the car does most of it for us.

But I live in a city of 5 million people so open roads are rare here.

It won't. I'd bet my 4runner on it. TNGAF will come to the tundra and lc200 at least one year before the 150 platform. The only test mule out there is a tundra. And it'll be a 2021 most likely. I'd expect 2023 model year.

This refresh makes no sense to run for only a year.

I guess because we don't really need them.

Maybe... Just maybe, Toyota will give us more customizability this year. Probably not, but maybe.

Side note, is the 4Runner even on display at the auto show? Because if it's not, we have some hope for something more!

What a let down

As we all counted down the days till the reveal to see a 6th gen. Hopefully these little tweaks don'tjust extent 5th gens for another 5 years. I mean there beautiful and all but they are extremely outdated and we've had 5th gens for a hot minute already

AM radio... Amplitude Modulation... Maybe it's another Ohio or rural mid-west thing...

700 WLW for sports and laughs (with the Reds and Bengals it's sometimes one in the same), 610 WTVN or WHIO for afternoon Rush. Occasionally if I'm working over in Indiana I'll tune to 1190 WOWO.

Rest of the time stream from the phone via Tidal. Not a fan of FM radio, too much rap, pop, or angry rock. Much rather listen to Sonny Rollins.

That's not a 4runner gauge cluster, look at the redline. That is likely a diesel model from another country.

Looks like they probably photoshopped it out of the LC 150 and didn't think that anyone would catch the diesel-like RPM range.

Honestly they don't change that much from one gen to the next when you think about it... biggest obvious changes are body, some interior of course but rest like running grea, motor/tranny are more or less the same with minor tweeks.

I don't expect ground breaking changes with the 6th gen and gong on 10yrs with the 5th.... I will make a gentleman's bet the 6th will be a 2021 model year (they knew the green was long awaited and saved it for last... did blue two years in a row).

TBH, calling this a "refresh" is reaching. It's really just a feature update. All of the exterior sheetmetal is the exact same, as is the powertrain and 99% of the interior.

Same for 2018 - the things they added were already standard on the Limited, outside of the rack and snorkel, which are just a bolt-on accessories.

Well, technically those changes are still running. The 2020 still has the sunroof, the rack and the sound system(speakers). Everything for the 2020 is building on top of the 2019 changes. From a business stand point, it makes perfect sense to roll out incremental updates year after year as long as you are not totally replacing something you did one or two years before. It's just easier to manage the projects and has less risks. The only reason to make big bundle changes is if you can save time or money on validation and testing. Stuff like racks and sunroofs have no reason to be paired with head units, TSS-P and push start. There might be a reason to do TSS-P and a new head unit at the same time if they intend to use it to display TSS-P related information.

And I'd take that bet. These 4Runner updates wouldn't make sense if they are about to replace it, especially if they're not taking the opportunity to call it a final edition and charge more.
