2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of the TRD Pros had side mirrors wth the turn signals integrated in them.

You're correct, at least the 2019 TRD Off Road Premium had turn signal mirrors, but not the 2019 Pro.

My 2018 TRD Pro has side mirrors with turn signals and puddle lamps built in.

Not super impressed by the new stereo, but the updated display on the instrument panel and dual temperature control would be nice. I wonder how hard that would be to swap in.

Something I noticed is that you won't be able to use a bumper with a hoop. They'll sit right in front of the safety sense sensor in the lower grill. Too bad they didn't put the sensors up in the windshield or high in the grill. Most come as an option, but ones like the Warn version will not work because they only come one way and that way isn't compatible. I think the updates are across the entire model line. You'll notice in the TFL video the TRD OR also has safety sense. They've also changed the upper grill a bit on it, you can see a horizontal trim piece in there that isn't in the current version.

I also notice that they dropped the nicer mirrors from the pro - they don't have the puddle lamps or the turn signals in them. They've also moved the auto headlight from the steering wheel stalk over to a push button left of the steering wheel. That's potentially good news as it might make it a much easier conversion for older ones if they're compatible parts.

They've also swapped to a different steering wheel and the buttons are different (phone on the left now instead of right)... why can't Toyota just make them all the same between models?!?!

The location of the radar sensor was also my concerned as I wanted to install a lo pro grille to have the winch and the bull tube gives it a nice aggressive look. I know C4 Fabrication has three types of lo pro grille (mid-height, full-height, and no bull tube). I am wondering if the full-height option will block the sensor. If so, then perhaps no bull tube grille is the way to go.

Not for me. I love push button start in my other car and no keys bouncing on my knee! I assume it's also touch based entry. Hopefully they didnt cheap out like they did on the Tacomas and only put the door sensor on the driver's side.

I would also assume if they have push button start, that they will also have keyless entry for both driver and passenger side. I know for sure either the 2019 or 2020 Tacomas have or will have keyless entry on both doors. Prior years only had driver side keyless entry.

I hope TFL does a video on the 2020 TRD Off Road, sensor box is in the same location, but there's now an interesting white/chrome stripe in the top grill area, I'd also like to see the size of the screen in that model.

That new chrome trim is absolutely atrocious and looks like its straight out of a JC Whitney catalog from 2001 :crazy:

I'm certain aftermarket bumper companies will adapt to the TSS grill. Probably only requires minor design changes.

I'm super envious of that new radio. I doubt it will happen, but if it actually becomes a viable swap into the previous model years, I will be super happy. Also jealous of the updated gauge cluster screen. Oh well, I've traded enough vehicles in the past five years, I gotta stop doing that shit.

The earlier TRD Pro models did have the better mirrors. At least the press versions did. I'm not sure I'd care either way - mine has them on a TEP, but I would have like power folding mirrors as an option.

2019 is driver's side only. My parents have a '19 TRD OR Premium Taco. It's kinda annoying that it only has one side. Even the Rav4 has it on both sides. It's also really ****ing annoying that the tailgate lock isn't integrated with the other locks.

Canada is doing something right if their PROs have the premium lights. Of course everyone harps on how the PROs are merely appearance packages at best and something about Toyota's margins, and how tight the factory in Japan is ran blah blah... but I for one wouldn't mind just buying a fully loaded PRO that had all of the features off the lot (*cough* KDSS) for a price premium, instead of it being a glorified, overpriced SR5/Limited hybrid trim, especially if it's billed as their flagship trim. Maybe I'm the minority here. At the end of the day, people still buy the PROs regardless of these things, and Toyota knows that, so my opinion is moot.

It sucks having to choose between x and y features between x and y trims; I feel like I haven't seen another vehicle where there isn't a highest end trim that has /all/ the features available as options.

The Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner TRD Pro models receive a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. The Sequoia gets a version of the upgraded infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, however. Tacoma and 4Runner receive a few exterior updates, and push-button start is now standard across the TRD Pro lineup.

I totally agree with this. I really wanted KDSS, rear locker, and the limited interior and awd option. Yeah, it would approach GX pricing, but I think there's a market. Or sell a 2 row GX with a rear locker??

SO silly, but yes the US model TRD Pro 4runners never have had turn signals with puddle lamps... but our neighbors to the north with a maple leaf on their flag get them on the same exact rig. Go figure.

I was fortunate enough to help a very talented harness designer test a mod that put them on CavBlue 2018 Pro... love it. Especially the puddles in Winter months nice to see the ground around your door when you're getting in after dark.

That dang black box in the grille...

That still baffles me. Like they didn't bother to design the sensor nicely into the visage of the Pro grille. My wife's Trailhawk has a super sleek low profile front collision/adaptive cruise sensor that you barely notice being there vs. Toyota basically strapping an old style lunchbox onto an otherwise killer looking rig. Annoying... it would bother me to look at that every day.
