My biggest thing about CarPlay (or Android Auto in my case) is being able to have Google Maps displayed on a nice big screen instead of on my phone sitting in the cup holder. Truly game changing when the OEM navigation is complete and utter garbage.

yeah but all things considered you're less likely to replace it with OEM if it fails.
Even the new one, is in all reality is a total joke, this is all software apart more "justifying" features like the 8" screen (of course I am sure it has the usual faster cpu and more memory)
The selling point in the last decade has been the integrated look, to be frank is still totally fk'd since the backplane is still double din. If manufacturers would actually walk away from that archaic form factor aftermarket would be coming up with some great stuff.

The biggest benefit to OEM is that they are automotive grade. If you want it to last for 20 years, automotive grade components matter. If you only want it to last 5 years - you can find a lot of options that are much less expensive and have more features, but are lesser quality. If something fails outside of warranty there's almost always a wide availability of salvage parts that are much cheaper than new OEM. If you want to laugh - Lexus bought me one of these a few years ago. 86804-53360 - Genuine Lexus COVER SUB-ASSY, NAVIGATION. The nav unit for an IS is $14,114 MSRP. Yes, fourteen thousand dollars! That's why one of the lexus dealer techs left it out of the fence at night and came back and stripped it. I'd bet that you can buy one on Ebay now for $500 or less.

My point is if it fails out of warranty, durable or not, you're not going to pay that much for it, at least most wouldn't. Ebay/salvage that's another story, if the price were reasonable I think a few would certainly go that route. If your talking more than a few hundred bucks tops most would go aftermarket.
When my 3rd gen (lol that sounds funny now) CD player went out, it was such an easy swap to a double-din JVC, cost me $250 all in plus a direct wire harness, it took me literally 25 minutes to install and I could use my iphone+bluetooth music/calls. I was a happy camper for 3 more years until I sold the truck.

I guess GM must use Chinese flea market grade then.
It’ll be interesting to see if they continue the Keep it Wild discount, which was $1,000 off the Limited and lower amounts for the other trims. It was odd that they added it as a special promo discount each year vs. lowering the price outright, but I guess that gives them the ability to just end the promo without “raising prices.”
Frankly, I don’t look at it as being “greedy.” They can charge whatever they want to maximize shareholder value. That can mean charging more to improve margins and being more profitable, or charging less, reducing margins, and (hopefully) making it up in volume (as Tesla has been trying).
Whether a $50K 4Runner is still compelling...that’s an individual question. I think I’d still go for it, even if we’re pushing $50K for a Limited. I haven’t found another vehicle that I like as much as my 4Runner.

No, the Limited with XREAS is a tighter suspension and has less rake with braking. Limiteds handle cornering much better due to being tuned more for pavement. Off road though, KDSS has a much softer feel and isn't as jarring as a Limited.
No difference whatsoever. Aside from the interior plastic panels, the 3rd row is a bolt-in accessory. There is no 2nd row adjustment for it.

I am glad we waited for 2020. The upgrades and the Army Green are what convinced us to do so. The only things I wish Toyota would have done are LED headlights like the Tacoma and better integration of the front radar sensor. Obviously, the next generation will bring a new powertrain and updated styling, but the current 5th generation is cool because it represents what "SUV" used to mean. Now everything is called an SUV, which is annoying. I am sorry, but your car based vehicle with independent suspension and frumpy styling is a hatchback, dammit.

Tell me about it, I'm renting a car with all the Toyota bells and whistles and all the beeping and crying has me so annoyed. Pulling into my garage? Beep Beep you are too close to the wall. I'm like 2 feet away. Driving on a road with uneven street lines? BEEP BEEP! LANE DEPARTURE!

If we all pay attention when driving all this nanny stuff would not be necessary. There is not a day that goes by I do not see or affected by someone on their phone where checking their social media status or comments is more important than being in control and responsible of a 3500+ vehicle in motion. It is absolutely disgusting and infuriating. Only if the idiots understood the physics behind a moving vehicle and the potential impacts it can have.....
There are some things that even a driver whose 100% paying attention can't control/avoid. Ask me how I know....
I do agree and still question sometimes the reasoning behind lane departure if you're truly undercontrol, but BSM and adaptive cruise I see being HUGE life savers and sadly we only get one.
I hate people that stare at their cellphones while they drive as well, and they've been glued to them since the 90s. However, have you never driven tired, rushed to work, or had your wife or kid yell at you while you were driving? Never swerved by accident or zoned out? Tailed the car in front of you a little too closely in traffic?
We're all human. Things happen sometimes, even to the best drivers.
Maybe you fear that driving aids make people lazier drivers. Possibly, but all we can do is strive to avoid that and continue to be vigilant ourselves - driving aids aren't going away. We only have control over our own actions.
Do I like the placement of the sensors? No. Do I agree that people should probably focus on the road and nothing else when they drive? Absolutely. Have I made mistakes while driving before, unrelated to staring at a phone? You betcha. Sure, it could be that I'm just a bad driver, and no one else on this forum has ever made an error in judgment on the road - but I doubt it. Is an extra layer of safety to help correct the occasional human error necessarily a bad thing, especially for those of us that do drive carefully?
Here's the best part about it though: You can literally disable everything you don't want with Techstream, and have it default to your disabled settings. Don't like it? No problem. Turn it off, and leave it off.
Let the people who want it have it and enjoy it, and those who don't can ignore it. As a community we are not a hive-mind and shouldn't be. There are plenty of people in this thread who have expressed their excitement for TSS. Let's not assume that they're "idiots" for wanting it.
